heating question

Hello! I am getting a corn snake soon and still have a few questions.

-should I use a UTH or heat bulb for heating?
-What type of thermostat should I use
-where should I buy these products

Thanks for the help! It would be very much appreciated.

1) UTH all the way.
2) a simple on/off thermostat is fine for controlling a UTH. Id recommend a hydrofarm, they're around $40 online.
3) if you're american, try online reptile supply stores.

1. UTH! :D They need that belly heat for digestion, and a lamp will heat (and severely dry out) the air.
2. I second Hydrofarm thermostat from Amazon.
3. You can probably get a UTH from almost any pet store, expo, etc. The thermostat I'd stick with online; sometimes pet stores carry them but there has been brands that fail and cause very dangerous situations for snakes/reptiles. Unfortunately I can't remember which brand it is...

Welcome to the forum!! Excellent to be setting up the vive beforehand :) make sure to check out the care sheet on the main forum page. TONNES of great info.

All the best!

1. Either. UTH preferred by most but honestly, both have their pros and cons. I could go on forever about the needs of exothermic animals and the benefits and drawbacks of both methods. I actually use both personally.

2. Depends on your location and budget. The Hydrofarm is the most widely used and best bang for your buck budget thermostat you will probably find in the states. If you've got a bit more money to spend, you really can't beat a good herpstat or vivarium electronics. The options they provide are definitely worth the higher price tag.

3. Amazon. You could pick up the actual heating supplies from almost any pet store, but a good thermostat will more than likely have to be ordered from amazon or a manufacture/distributor anyways so might as well get it all in one order and save a few bucks anyways.
