Heating?!!!

oh yah.. and i forgot to ask..

if the heat changes alot.. like.. 75 to 70.. or 80 to 70

is it bad and can it reflect on the snake?

because.. i want to turn to the under tank heater at night so that i wont have a light on in the room..

Your snake needs to have access to an area that is approximately 82-85, and another area in the low to mid 70s. If the lamp is causing the warm side to fluctuate all the way down to 70, then you need to try something else. Where in your viv are you reading these temps?

Unless you can figure out how to maintain both a warm and cool side with your current setup, I would highly recommend returning your lamp and purchasing a UTH that actually works. I know it can be frustrating, but good luck.

i have only one temp. gauge.. sooo

do i always need to put it on the other side to see how cold it is?

yes. this is very frustrating!! lol.. but worth it at the end

Your thermometer is best set to measure the heat at the hottest point of the tank. Corns can survive temps below ideal levels, but over a certain range you risk brain damage or death in extreme cases.

Measure the temp where the snake will be (presumably floor level) at the warm end of the tank.

The ideal max temp for the warm end is in the mid-80s.

Stable temperatures are preferable, which is one advantage of using a thermostat.

If you are using a UTH and a lamp, odds are it is actually too hot. You need a good digital thermometer with a probe so you can get the proper temperature readings. Measure directly over the center of the UTH, under the substrate, that should be the hottest point.
