Hello All!

Hi, I am new to this site. I am from south central PA. Just bought a baby corn snake. Used to have one years ago. I have the under tank adhesive heater, and a basking light. It get's a bit confusing what with what the stores tell you and what you read on different sites. Is it good to have a basking light? And just have it on during day? For a thermometer, where in the tank should I put it?
Thanks!

The light isn't really great...not to say some people don't use them, but it will suck all the humidity out of the air which he/she will need for goods sheds. You need to get a digital thermometer with a probe. This will tell you the ambient temp in the tank, the temp. ontop of the heating pad, and most also show you the humidity. You will also need something to regulate the temp of the heat pad, otherwise it may get too hot...I am going to dig up the home-made dimmer DIY for you in just a sec :)

This thing works great assuming the temps in your snake room don't fluctuate too much...

Super easy to build....alot of people say "oh I'm not an electrician"...and honestly I had never done any wiring or anything before making one of these...then I made 5. It's stupid easy, and real cheap :)

Any other questions, feel free to PM me or post your question....also the search function is our friend ;)

Thanks so much, I will try that. We have a wood burning stove for heating our home, so the room that the snake is in will be anywhere from 60-70. Is that ok? The wood burning stove is 2 rooms away. How do I get humidity into the tank? So my snake doesn't need any light in it's tank?

The ambient light in the room will be plenty of light, and no they don't actually need the light to see or anything like that. 60-70 is a little chilly....I would make sure the heat pad cover atleast 1/2 or possibly 3/4 of the bottom of his enclosure. The wood burning stove may actually be a blessing...forced air heating systems (gas or electric furnaces) will dry out the air much more that what you use. The humidity should be fine as long as there isn't a light bulb on it drying out the air. I wouldn't worry about the humidity too much until his first shed. If it goes well then there is nothing you need to do. I have never had a problem with Corns shedding...it's Ball Pythons that I have more trouble with when it comes to humidity.

Now in the winter the air may be noticeably dryer...in that case you may want to mist once daily or drape a wet towel over the enclosure in the morning, then re-wet it daily.
