Hello, I'm 7 months pregnant, couple questions

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I came here too hopefully get some advice, books don't give you specific answers unfortunately. I'll have to give myself a proper introduction later, along with a picture of my snake Ra.

So as my title says, I'm 7 months pregnant expecting a little boy in December. I've had Ra for almost 4 years now, he's a snow, I got him at a reptile show that came to Arizona, he was just a baby then. I've had him in pretty much the same habitat since I got him, and now that I'm having a baby I have to change some things.

First, are there in health risks in having a snake and a baby in the same room? I mean I'm not going to be putting them both in the same place, but any like airborne concerns, or anything?

Second, I need to get rid of the current light he has, I don't have room to have it hanging, and I would not like to have the baby taking naps with that lamp on. And I also can't move Ra out of my room because my older sister always reminds me how much she dislikes snakes, and I don't want to risk her doing something stupid to him. So I've been researching about UTH and they seem to be exactly what I need... Will there be any problems with switching Ra to a UTH heat source? Also the 3 main brands I've seen are Zoo Med, Hagen, and T-Rex, my house temperature is kept at 78 degrees, and I measured the temperature in my room by his cage that is at 80 degrees, any suggestions on what brand? I believe his cage is 20 gallon tank, but when I looked up sizes it was a little longer.

Last, I've been approached a couple times by people when Ra was younger asking if he was male or female, and was told that I should later get in contact with them when he is older for breeding. But I've lost all their information. How would I go about breeding him? I'm not interested in getting another Snow or one with similar coloring (I'd love to get a charcoal or lavender soon, but of course that will have to wait for later considering my new addition) so I would not want to get a female to have them mate.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

First, there are no airbourne concerns about keeping the snake and a baby in the same room. However, snakes can be a source of salmonella. Therefore, you will need to make sure that anything the snake comes in contact with is disinfected. This also means making sure anyone who touches the snake, washes their hands thoroughly before touching the baby.

Second, any of those UTH's would be alright. Just make sure you get the right size for your tank. You should also consider getting a thermostat for the UTH. This regulates the temp so that it doesn't get too hot for the sanke.

A UTH should work very well, just make sure you check the temp under the substrate, they can get to hot if not regulated, which you can do with a rheostat.
As for health issues good hand washing after handling the snake is sufficient.
I don't understand the breeding part, but you don't have to breed him if you don't want to. He may go off food for the spring time, but that is normal. Breeding is a big responsibility, and the first year can cost a bit. good luck on new baby, susan

The under tank heater is defiantly the way to go as corns use belly heat. One thing you will defiantly want to look into is either a thermostat or build/buy your own rheostat to regulate the temperature as UTH's are notorious for getting to hot. Also you should defiantly look at getting a thermometer with a probe (a cheap solution is a meat thermometer from walmart mine was $8) because ideally you need to check the substrate temperature and if you use an UTH you need to check the temp on the glass under the substrate.

I think what you're talking about is a "breeding loan". I'm not sure exactly how it works, but usually a snake will be provided to another breeder, who then mates the snakes and incubates the eggs. Beforehand, some sort of arrangement is worked out about compensation. After the snake is done doing his/her duty, it's returned to the original owner.
