Hello, I'm Brittany from Southern California. I'm twenty-two years old and I spend my favorite time Irish dancing at my local studio (soon also tap dancing at my local college), exercising and stretching, and spending time with my animals. My little zoo includes two 120-150lb Akitas, one crazy cat named Cash (after Johnny Cash), a 28 gallon fish tank (I downgraded from several hundred gallons after my move), my five year old desert tortoise named Jack (who went into my possession at only a week old from my local nature center that I volunteered at at the time), and my two new baby corns!
I have only had my cornsnakes since January 9th. This is because Sunday the 3rd, my five foot Iguana passed away. I pretty much cried four days straight for my Basil. And I still get teary-eyed even now typing about her, she was my baby. Before she passed I was at the local pet store picking up a new basking light for her when I had to steal a peak at the reptiles on display. I was instantly drawn to the cage with the baby cornsnakes and I had to buy what I came for and leave before I made any impulse buys. That entire week I kept thinking about those baby corns. I couldn't get them out of my head. Then after Basil died I started some heavy research into the care and keeping of corns. After deciding this was the right snake for me I found my favorite color morph and emailed a breeder that had them in stock. That night my step-dad tells me he heard that there is a reptile show going on that weekend (ZooMed's Reptile Show).
So that weekend we went to the reptile show and I was looking for a reverse okeetee not really expecting to find one. Halfway during my time there I come across one booth with this tiny little white snow amongst bigger hatchlings in their deli cups and I fell in love. I was allowed to hold her and at only $20, how was I supposed to ignore that? But I came for one snake, and this wasn't the one. But then my mother suggested I get two. *happy dance* So I bought her. We were nearly ready to leave the show and I still have not been able to find any reverse okeetees until, of course, we hit the last booth of corn snakes. And there he was... and this one only set me back $30. So for $50, I came home with one more snake than I had planned and for less then I expected to pay for even one. I had a very good day.
So meet Calcifer and Pandora! Calcifer, male, is the RO at 15 inches in length and about 11g. Pandora, female, is the snow at 12 inches in length and about 7g. Both are three months old.
These two are my new babies. And they are really helping heal that hole in my heart. I am more of a lurker, that's just how I roll. =P But I figured I would say hi and introduce myself since I am very much soaking up all the great information and experiences all of you share.
