I've been lurking for awhile now, longer than I've been registered. I figured I should make a post so eventually if I decide to post in other threads no one will have to think I'm a troll or something. :)

I don't have any reptiles of any sort...yet...I'm getting married in October so I need to save my money for awhile. I also have the problem that my fiance is terrified of snakes. He's an Iraq vet that was stuck going into tight spaces where all the venomous snakes liked to hang out apparently. He tells me I will never have snakes, I've been waiting my entire life to move out of my parents place to get snakes and I WILL have some.

I like to research things to death before I get a pet, so expect many questions from me on very, very specific details when I do finally get to have my snakes. I will probably post in the chit chat forum about wedding input..be prepared. :spinner:
 
Hi there and Welcome to the forum :D Glad you are researching before you get into this awesome hobby. And I say hobby because snakes are so fun to have and a joy to share with others. I've been checking in on the wedding songs thread...that's definitely stuff I'm trying to get figured out. I have most everything figured out, it's not going to be too awful fancy, can't really afford it, but it's a military wedding so it'll be at least a little unique.

Oh, and never fear...I have plans for multiple snakes, I just won't let him know that for awhile. :grin01:
 
I have personally seen relationships die from things like this. Be forward with him. Tell him you plan to have them, but instead of making it confrontational, comprimise a bit. Agree to keep them in a room with a door so he can not see them and keep all that has to do with them in there. Perhaps if he can not see them, they will not bother him, but do not just go and get them or you may end up with your snakes but no husband. That would be very sad indeed. I was lucky, my husband thought the idea of snakes was neat. He is the reason we even got the first. I love to handle wild garters but had never really had a pet snake before he and I decided to get one.

Our anniversary was the 20th. 8 years now :) I hope all marriages that are companionable last so long and longer!

Hi and welcome! I do completely concur with carnivorouszoo though, be careful because a fear of snakes is a very real and terrifying thing for some people and is extremely difficult to get over. I have an ex who was and still is terrified of snakes, it isn't something that I personally understand but it was something that completely enveloped his mind when the fear took hold. As carnivorouszoo said, I would recommend talking to him and explaining to him about your desire for a snake and maybe find a happy medium (i.e. keep it in a building/shed separate from the house).
 
Oh I understand that telling instead of asking can push him away, but he does alot of things that I don't like/asked him not to do and expects me to be ok with it. I would keep them in a separate room anyway..hopefully I'll be able to have a sewing room so then I won't have worry about drastically changing temps.
He does what he wants, I found out the other day he bought 2 guns when we need to be saving for the wedding. Now, I love guns so I'm not upset he got them, I'm upset he didn't tell me about them.
