Help my breed striping

Hey, I recently stumbled upon this website and I am incrediablly happy to see such a corny community in existance.

Here's my situation:

1. I am trying to figure out some of the basics for patern morphs. What is ressessive to what, and such and so forth. I use the Corn Snake Manual as my bible and it's not giving me the info I need. Right now I have an Anery B, Anery A and an Amel all with regular patterns and I want to be able to create all three with stripes...

If I purchase a striped corn can I just breed them and get the striped? Probably not, right? So do I need to inbreed a generation and notice the trait in F2 babies? Normally, I would figure it out on my own but I would prefer to save myself the 2 to 4 years to figure it out... or not figure it out 8-P

I believe the Loves were saying that in order to get striped I need to also breed with the Motley trait... Ugh. My head hurts. Anything you can help me with is more than appreciated.

Thank you from MIchael Andrew Boyko
Corny Snake Guy.

P.S - Without changing the colour of my nose, can I say, once more, how much I love this site?! I LOVE IT! :flames: --- and that, I love that too

BURN!! :flames: :flames: :flames:

To get striped babies by breeding a striped to the three you mentioned you have, they would have to be het stripe. Otherwise, yes, you would have to wait till the F2 generation of breeding back offspring from these breedings to one another.

A good place to look at genetics is here: http://www.serpwidgets.com/Genetics/genetics.html
And he also has a small book out on it that is good for learning with. Serp is good at explaining in a way that is understandable.

About breeding in motley, No, you don't want to do that if you want a striped corn. You would end up with a mixed striped/motley babies and that is not what you are looking for if you want regular stiped ones.

The quickest way to get stripes, of course, would be to purchase a male and female striped with hets to make the other colors you want. But taking the longer route using your females would probably be more enjoyable. And you may get a surprise and find one or more het for stripe.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Dianne hit it right on the head...

Kathy Love's book is a great starting point...but Serpwidgets site is VERY detailed about the way genetics work and the morphs...

Personally I would recommend getting his book. It explains the different genetic traits in a very understandable fashion. It would definitely be of help to you in this regard...and understanding the relationship between stripe and motley.
