Hemp substrate

Rachel

Vet nurse in training!
I just got some hemp substrate for my snakes. I've been told its quite good by a few people over here but have never heard it mentioned on this forum. Has anyone here used it/heard of it? So far so good, the snakes seem to love it, they can burrow well and it spreads out nicely (much better than the woodchip I was using before). It also seems to absorb heat alot better than the woodchip did (it's alot finer). Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else has used it and any comments. I've only heard good stuff so far but just wanted to double check!

So thats what the neighbors growing...

snake substrate.
Actually I doubt it's available here in U.S..
The only hemp products I know of for sale is the feed store with sterilized hemp seeds for the birdies and the neighbor;)

Hemp prohibition is in full swing in the U.S..
They've actually gone as far as to ban hemp seed based health food snack foods here as a percieved threat to the youth of America.
one would have to go to Canada for a full selection of hemp products.

They're is probably people smuggling vast quantities of "snake substrate" in to the country as we speak.

I feed hemp seed to my mice ,I believe it increases there fertility rates.

Rachel,do you have a brand/manufacturer name?
Is it affordable?
Is it like a small pellet?

Another practical application for hemp fiber, right on dude,I'm digging it man.

No brand name, just got told about it when I went to the shop to buy my usual woodchip. I bought it in a medium sized bag (maybe the shop owner buys it in bulk and re-packages it in smaller bags?? I'll ask him tomorrow). It is cheaper than my usual substrate by about £1 (and I get more of it). Its kind of like shredded bark, I can't think of a better way to describe it. I'll try and see if my mum can scan a photo in.

I can't believe its banned in the US! I mean its not like you can smoke it or anything (well I suppose you could but then you might aswell smoke birch shavings for all the effect it would have ;) ) Oh well, my snakes are digging it!! LOL
