Hey I recently got a corn snake actually i got it yesterday and since then ive been doing nothing but research and ill just like to say this forum is awesome you guys are really great with helping new people learn about these beautiful snakes and then they do a great job of teaching other people! Wow its a great cycle isnt it? Well I got to feed my baby today and watching it eat was just awesome. I have been reading alot but i still havent found an answer to my questions i know this is just the chit chat section but i was just wondering how fast do they grow? I have read that the more u feed it the faster it will grow is this true and if so how much is too much (to feed) Anyways once again u people are great here and im defitnetly planning on becoming a regular memeber here!

Thanks for everything! :crazy02:

Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear you've been "doing your homework".
As far as the growing thing, some grow faster than others. There may be some truth to the more you feed it theory, but I've never tested it. Do a search on Power Feeding, and you'll see what I mean. My little ones get prey every 7-10 days whether it be one fuzzy or two pinkies. My sub adults get a mouse per week, unless they are in the "blue". This system of feeding has raised healthy corns for me in the past. I'm sure you'll get other opinions, this is just mine. If you like watching them eat, I just posted a thread in the photo gallery called "Blair Feeding", check it out and again, welcome

Welcome defx101 :)

These forums are a great place to learn as so many people here have vast amounts of experience keeping corns.

The growth rate of your snake will indeed depend on how much food it receives, but there certainly are limits. You don't want to stunt it growing lengthwise, but you don't want to overfeed it leading to obesity, which is not at all uncommon in captive snakes since they don't get as much exercise as in the wild.

I feed appropriately sized food to hatchlings every 5 days, juveniles every 6-7 days and adults every 7-14 days depending on the time of year, what sex the cornsnake is and whether they are going to be laying eggs, and how heavy they are already. There are many, many posts on feeding size and frequency on the site and doing a search will pull up almost anything you wanted to know.

Great to have you here,

Thanks for the info guys. Im planning on feeding it just 2 pinkies a week on different days thats what the guy at the pet shop was feeding so i guess ill just continue it. I also went by and picked up some mice i was going to go for the rats but the guy told me babies were to big for my snake so i went ahead and get 4 mouses 2 i know are female and 1 make and 1 unknown . Was told its hard to tell cause they are so small. Anyways once angain thanks for responding to my post.

This is a little off topic.....it depends on the species of snake as well. My corns tend to grow at the same rate, but I have a Russian ratsnake that is growing twice as fast because of its genetic make up. They hatch out big and have to make the most of the short summers in their native habitat. So at less than a year old, he's as big as my two year old corns, on the same feeding schedule. And he brumated on his own this winter.

On the cornsnake side, now that I've moved up to fuzzies on a couple yearlings, they seem to be growing even faster. Prey size seems to be a factor as they get more nutrition from a fuzzy than a pink.

welcome

i feed my snakes every 7-14 days, they qre growing just fine and have no health problims, after feeding asnake its best to wait 2 days. what i do though is when i see my snake doesnt have a lump i wait one or two extra days just to make sure, one time my snakes lump didnt go down verymuch after 2 days, but thats when i swiched her from a pinky to a fuzzy. if u feed it 2 times a week u wont beable to hold you snake muchand thats the funnest part is to hold it lol;), anywho welcome to the forum there lots of smart people here. and good luck
