himidity?

Hi there.
For corns you only need to raise the humility during the shed cycle. To about 40 -50%. You should get a hygrometer to get proper levels.
Misting (light spraying) the Viv is one way. And ,depending you you type of Viv (cage) you can try covering the top (closing off the vents) 1/3 to help raise the humidity. I know there's a few more but can't remember. So try the search section too. Scroll to the bottom right of the page to the archives and check there. And here a few links to read too. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28341

Good Luck and post when you have more questions.

I you are using a glass aquarium, you might want to reconsider using a different type of tank/cage. Personally I recommend using a humidifier(if you can stand the room being humid), since it makes thing a lot simpler, than other methods, if you are trying to get your humidity into a specific range.

A good/quiet humidifier can be pretty expensive, so it may not be worth it if you only have one snake.

What??? Humidify the whole room! For one snake that needs the humidity up during the shed cycle. Most folks here started with a old glass (fish) tank. I'm sorry but I can see how this make it simpler than misting.

misting

I keep several different kinds of snakes. They require different settings to be at their most comfort. I simply mist the cages when needed to set their humidity up. With corns its not important to offer additional humidity other than the water bowl unless they are preshed. Then the misting or a humid hide will offer help with having a good shed.

I agree with Lenny on this one. Misting has worked very well for me.

For me it works better because my snake is my bedroom (which is a pretty small room) and for me it's just easier to keep the humidity up all the time rather than misting during a shed.

I guess a humidfier isn't practical for every situation, misting would probably work fine, but I've been using a humidifier for a long time, and it has worked out very well for me (never a bad shed) when I was misting my snake did have a couple bad sheds.

I was just sharing what has worked out best for me. :shrugs:

OK cool. A humidifier might work for you, if you house is heated by hot air heat I could see that. That might dry it out faster than let say hot water baseboard heat.
So what levels difference with and with out a humidifier in the Viv?

without the humidifier the room is usually under 20%, with the humidifier on anywhere from 40% to 60%, I usually have to rig it with a timer if it gets too humid.

Wow ......no wonder .
Where you live, Arizona? That way too dry.

Illinois, it's humid in the summer, but dry the fall through the first half of spring.

humididty

Rather than misting inside the cage, I just cover half of the screen top with a damp towel which keeps the water evaporation inside the tank and doesn't allow it to be released... I just spray the towel twice a day as it lays on the screen with water and the humidity stays a consistent 50-60%...

Yes Patusch, I agree that is another good way to raise the humidity a bit . I have done that a time or two myself especcially when the snake was really cranky and I didnt want to stress it out by invading its space. Thats a nice nonevasive approach.

age

I've made my share of them as well... A quick question off this topic... I just picked up a hatchling okeetee (probably okeetee phase, not locale) who is 13" long... The guy I bought him from didn't know his age, but I am guessing at 13" he is probably around 8 weeks old... Anyone know how old a 13" hatchling would be approx...??? Thx
