Hissing and Biting...Seems Stressed!

Today I was feeding my snakes that are both about 9 months old, however i fed one of them because he was in a perfect friendly mood but the other one(female) was hissing and snaping at me whenever i tried to go near her. She has never done this before and I am very worried because she is usually very friendly! Does anyone know what her problem is?

Why yes, She's a snake!
They have bad days just like we do. :wavey:
When did she shed last? Maybe that's it. :shrugs:

I don't know a lot about this but could it have anything to do with mating season?
If she was older, that could be a possibility, but not at 9 months.

bigpops, I'd leave her alone for 2 days and then see how she is.

do you feed...

your snakes in a separate container or right in the enclosure?

if the snake hasn't behaved in such a way before i wouldn't worry about it too much. i've been tagged once and only once by norbert and i thought he had gone psychotic on me, but the next time i went to pick him up he was all sorts of calm again. your snake could have been hungry, or blue, or just a little more stressed than usual. two days of no handling sounds like a good plan.

I hope she jsut had a bad day...I dont think its the shedding, because she just shed not awile back, and I do feed them in seperate containers. I guess I'l just try again tomorrow and see how she feels then. Thanx for your imputs! :wavey:

I have a female Blizzard that has gotten a nasty attitude over the last few months (she's about 20 months old now), especially when she is due to shed. I can open her enclosure and instantly her tail starts going and she sets herself up for a strike. I don't think a lot about it and just let her be the way she is. I figure as she gets a little older she'll calm a bit (at least I hope so).

it's best to let...

them just bite you, but it's hard not to pull away real quick. the problem with pulling a way is, if they have broke the skin, if their fangs are imbedded and you pull away you can easily yank out a fang. they strike so quick that by the time you realize you've been tagged the damage is done. depending on the size and age of the snake the bite will hardly inflict any pain whatsoever. norbert wasn't a year old when he bit me, i felt nothing, but he did draw blood.

Welcome to the world of females....one day she's all calm and cool... NEXT day she will TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF!! Moody moody moody....and they say WE are hard to understand :shrugs:

My suggestion is, if she does the same thing, just pick her up anyway. They usually calm down after you pick them up. Don't let her get the idea that if she hisses and strikes at you, then you will leave her alone, or she may just do it every time :D

I say, show her who's boss!

I would just like to announce to everyone that was wondering...I fed Trinity today and she was calm and cool, seemed happy again really. I guess all of this stuff I went through is one of those things that cannot be explained and all we can say is, snakes have bad days sometimes :shrugs: . O well thanks again everyone for helping me out...appritiate it! :D

One more thought that just occurred to me. Although I never underestimate their intelligence at times, they basically have "pea" brains. Sometimes one of my snakes will be just hating life, and 30 minutes later he'll be as calm as can be. Go figure!
