Corn's name: Stimpy.
I've had my 10 month old ghost for about 3 weeks. I have a nailed down feeding schedule now (every saturday) and he's doing great. :D But last friday I noticed his eyes seemed to be getting blue. He ate fine on saturday and his eyes were even more cloudy and blue and I thought for sure he was getting ready to shed. They have now cleared up ( around tuesday night when I took him out for the first time after digesting) and he hasn't shed yet. How long does it normally take for them to shed after their eyes clear up? I'm not too worried because if he was in blue I'm sure he'll shed when he's ready. I'm just wondering when. I've been misting his cage 2 times a day instead of once a day to ensure he gets it off easily.

Thanks for your time with my "noob" question. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!1
 
Sound's like he'll shed soon. My babie's usualy shed 2-3 days after there eyes clear :cheers: . Are you going to save it?

My year old snow took 4 days from clear up to shed. Had me wondering/confused in the meantime, but she wasn't too be rushed! She ate right on schedule during the wait too.

Yes!!! He shed this morning. No!!!!!! It was a pretty crappy one. It came off in pieces so I don't think I'm gonna end up keeping it.

I use lamps so I think that might have dried it out too much. I use eco earth and that dries pretty easily. Plus I need to get a themometer w/ a probe and hygrometer. I made a thread about them and everyone told me I could get it at Wal Mart most likely, but I couldn't find one there, even in the garden section like they suggested. I checked a few other stores but I think I'll just go to this specialty garden store near my house.

I think I'll try getting the excess off him this morning ( from what I can see it's not on his tail or around his body so I won't have to worry about constriction) . I am also thinking about moving his cage under the window so I can suspend his lights on the window sill. Oh ya and I didn't make him a humid hide, I just misted his cage 2 times a day. Guess that wasn't good enough :nope:
 
Well as long as there aren't any bits on his tail and his eye caps have come off, not a problem for him (just for you, no skin to keep and show off!). I'm sure you've read the threads about getting the rest of the skin off, it'll be fine. At least now you know exactly what he looks like when he's getting ready to shed. Do you keep a snake diary? I'd be lost without it, time gets messed in my head! I thought I'd had a snake for 3 weeks and it turns out it had been 5 days! (That's what you get for working 6 days a week.) If you note down feed, poops, blue phase and sheds you might be able to see a pattern after some months.

While you're at the garden centre, pick up some untreated spagnum moss. Very easy to make a moist hide, just soak moss in water, squish all the water out you can, then loosely stuff it in a suitable size cardboard box. I just put them in when I see the snake is in blue, and sure enough they go curl up in it for a day or so. Take it out after shed as moss can start to get a bit stinky :) Not to mention that the little darlings start chucking it all over the viv :grin01:

Thanks!! I just got it all off. I'll post at like 3:00 pm today and give more info but I'm already late for school. I was worried about my little buddy and that comes before getting to school on time..... For me anyways. :D

Hey Erisan, At Walmart those thermomoter/hydrometer with probes are not in the garden section generally. They are best found the in the section that sells humidifiers and space heaters. Best of luck to you and your snake.
