hocing loogies?????

E. g. guttata

Her name was Mary-9/17/05
Alrighty. This is probably only the third or fourth thread I've started, but I really am getting worried now. I tried talking to a few people in chat about my female. Her neck seems to be getting swollen recently, very similar to some snakes who get swollen necks before shedding (I read both threads). The odd thing about it, though, is that she gets this swollen neck a day or two AFTER shedding. Last time I saw it, it went away pretty quickly. This time, however, it doesn't look like the swelling is going down. The ONLY reason I'm getting worried is because I looked in the tank this morning to make sure the water didn't get stuff in it last night, and there seems to be some kind of mucus discharge that looks almost like a loogie. I wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I set up a vet visit.

She is currently not acting odd. She has a normal day/night cycle. I cohabitate her with my adult male. I have them on a bedding that is a mixture of coconut fiber and sand. I feed an adult mouse weekly. Haven't had any feed/shed problems. She is currently gravid and about to lay her eggs. I'm not sure of temps (I need to get a thermometer) but she does have a temp gradient (UTH on one side of the tank). She ate sunday after shedding.

If there is any info I forgot, please let me know. I want to wait until the eggs are laid (within the next week or so) before I go to see a vet. I don't want to run the risk of her laying eggs on the way to the vet office. Please let me know if I should be this worried. Cuck, Connie, I look forward to your posts, and Gary's smart-@$$ remarks.

IMO it would be a very good idea to take the male out. At this point, he's probably still bugging her on a regular basis and adding stress, which can affect the eggs as well as her own health. This is especially a good idea since she may be drained both from being sick and from putting all of those resources into eggs... adding this stress to the situation is not good. If she has anything that is contagious, you really don't want the male getting it either.

Would you suggest taking her to a vet?? These snakes have been paired together for 7 years, and for the last 4 the female has laid eggs with no problems being cohabitated with the male. I will be seperating them for the short-run here soon though. I just got some new containers :D :D :D :D
