Horny snake?

Hi guys,

So I have two adult corns (around 3 years old) one male (snow) and one female (Carolina) they are currently housed in different vivariums one of top of the other. Both have sliding glass doors with locks.

Last year around September time they mated and we had some successful hatchlings born Jan 2013.

For the last month or so our male corn is always trying to escape, hes VERY active even right after he feeds. He is always trying to nudge the doors open with his face, wraps his body around his water bowl and pushing as hard as he can to get out. He pushes with so much force that when his head slips he ploughs into the floor of his cage. Im really worried that he's going to damage his nose or hurt himself.

When I see him doing this I try to ignore it but after a while I get him out to give him some space but he knows exactly where the female cage is. he darts straight up to her viv and tries to get in!! Its almost like he can smell her and its making him horny? We have no intentions of breeding again this year as it was so late in the year last time we want to make sure that she is big and healthy enough to carry eggs, and we found the breeding process quite stressful when 5 of our eggs went full term but didn't hatch. (its kind of put us off as we got told they drowned and most likely snapped their egg tooth)

However, we got them both out and handled them when his tail shot straight up and his little winkle came out and started leaking everywhere (it was pretty gross). Do you think that "hornyness" is the reason he wants to come out all the time or do you think there may be a problem with him that I cant see? Maybe he doesn't like his enclosure or something? Temps are fine and he has several hides, a climbing log that he uses and a toilet tube which he always curls up in (or trys to as hes getting too fat for it now).

Has anyone else got a super horny snake and is there anything I can maybe put on the glass to stop him hurting his nose?

Thanks guys.

He's definately got Spring Fever! restless searching especially as he can smell the pheromones from your girl, is normal in males in breeding season. If you could put his viv in a different room it might help him settle down. Nose-rub is very common in glass vivs as he will try repeatedly to force his way out. Maybe you could fix some sort of foam padding or at least cover the edges with duct tape? Mine are in tubs so that's all I can think of

poor guy! :(

yeah I second moving his viv to another room..
and I would also try and find some sort of padding to fit along the sides of the viv, I don't have any suggestions on what to use maybe some for polyurethane foam lined with felt?

Hope this is a little bit of help!

Thanks for both of your help guys. Unfortunately moving his viv isn't really do-able as they both run off the same thermostat (I think anyway, bf does all the wiring and stuff). I shall try and get some foamy stuff and stick it temporarily to the glass doors of his viv (leaving some viewing space still) hopefully it wont affect the living conditions ie temps or humidity. Thanks you guys :)
