Can it harm a corn by keeping it in an aquarium not in a vivarium. Because of the ventalation? My aquarium does have tiny gaps on the top.
Also my corn has spent the last two days wrapped around the tube light at the top of the tank (the lights not on). the height of the tank is 18" she crawled up the fake plants to the top and hasnt come down since. is this normal? the temps and humidity are fine.

I think its fine to keep him/her in a aquarium with a screen lid? Thats what i have ones of my babies in. but i dont think its a good idea to have her be wrapped around the light. How is she wrapped around this light? isnt the screen covering the top so she cant get to the light? Do you have pics of what you are talking about?

Yes they are fine. Do you have a "screen lid" ?. If not You should be able to buy one at a pet store. A picture would help.

This is going to sound dumb but what is a screen lid? It has a metal lid on top, half of it folds up so you can get to the snake. no camera sorry. She just wraps around the bulb it is a long 2ft bulb it doesnt give of heat. :)

As long as it isnt turned on. Make sure you have clips of the lid and that it is secure cause that sounds like quite a posh spot to try and escape from. Thats all Nagini used to do was climb around the lip of my tank and try to find possible escape routes. She never got away from me though! Knock on wood.

Heres a example of a screen lid, but they can look different also....hope this helps

Fish aquariums are fine. All of my tanks are "fish aquariums" with screen lids. I'll attach a pic at the end of one of my tanks with the lid and clips. Not the greatest pic, but might give you some idea. The clips are very good but I would recommend using something heavy to set on the lid as well. If you go to a store the clips should be found near the screen lids.

It almost sounds like what you are using now is more of a "hood" than a lid. A screen top is probably a better option. For now I wouldn't think it would be a problem for him to be wrapping around the light. As long as the light isn't on, and I would leave it unplugged as well. One hatchling that I kept in a tank for awhile spent every minute during the day curled up on a plastic plant up at the top of his viv.
I think your's will be fine. :)

Don't buy one, just make one ... use a piece of srap ply wood, cut a hole in the middle, put cloth screen there (not metal so they dont hurt themselves trying to escape), then just nail choose how you want to attach it to the tank. Use boards to go along the outside, cut the plywood to fit the inside and lay one the lip of the inside, etc. Its pretty easy, I'm 17 and It just takes me a few minutes.

i forgot to ask... What is best to use mesh (not sharp) or cloth like an old bed cover? also i use an uth will i lose alot of heat or will it be the same as using the normal lid? :shrugs: :)
