How do I secure a rubbermaid tote for snakes?

cohazard

corn snake noob!
Wow those lids are flimsy! haha

I was at wally world today checking out the totes and I realized that my idea for securing the lids (metal clamps made for binding paper) wouldn't work, they slip right off.

How do you do it?

I was recommended 32 quart containers, but I'm going with 90quart tubs that are long, so that the snake has some room to stretch, and I can add a branch at one end for it to climb.

I'll be keeping my BP's in 150quart tubs, and I could use advice for securing their tubs too.

Thank you :)

Drill holes in the side on top and on the lid and use zip ties or velcro to hold it down or put rubber tape about the edge of the tube to make it more snug. And the easiest is to place something heavy on top. These are just a few ideas i have seen work.

Cool tips, thank you.

I do plan to stack the tubs, so i guess I'm mainly worried about the snake on top haha

I know I've seen clips that you can use to secure the lids, but I can't remember what they're called, aside from 'clips'.

Rubbermaid does sell these really good clear plastic ones that have snaps that you push in on either side of the lid. I was considering using one of them for Jasper's upgrade.

what size are you planning to upgrade to?

What's weird is that the two walmarts I've been to looking at plastic totes, they each had vastly different ones.

Well I've already done it. I had Jasper in a 12x12x24 Exo Terra viv (the small Rainforest one) and now she's in a 10 gallon critter tank, with aspen bedding, three faux plants, her two hides and a log.

Also moved her back to my room, since it's the warmest in the house by preference and It's cold in the dining room where she was.

Go out to the local hardware store near you and buy a set of miniature clamps. Works for me.

Home Depot sells mini "spring clamps" in the tools section near the clamps for holding wood together for glueing and such. They are rubber coated so they stay on the tubs and they are easier to pull off than binder clips. Cost ~35 cents each.

Like these but bright green rubber on them:

Thats them! Thanks for the picture.

Cool thanks for the tips everyone!

So does anyone have pics of their rubbermaid/sterilite enclosures?

I've seen a few, and I really enjoyed them. :)

I work at Target and we carry some nice sterilite with snapping lids... I'm keeping my babies in the 18qt version, but I believe the come in a 70qt and 90qt versions too... :)

I have a large one with a lid like this above. I used it to transport my snake. (in fact, I'm taking her to the vet today for a checkup).

The one I have is a pretty large (sweater box) and the lid that came with it has very secure latches that just fold up and clamp in place on each end.
I got mine at Wal-Mart as well. When you purchase the box, the lids should be right below the box. these come with the containers for no extra charge. They have these type latches for a few different size containers.
