How does my setup sound?

Bling_my_leo

Hey.

I am getting a corn snake in about three weeks time. I already have the setup done. I want to see if I should add any thing more. ;)

Setup includes:
20 gallon long tank (critter cage, with locking lid)
UTH
paper towels (getting aspen)
corner water dish
cave hide
paper towel roll
cottage cheese container (has reptile carpet over it *hide*)
fake plant with rock base
fake flexible plants
flexi-branches

How does my setup sound for my future corn snake?

Thanks you guys. :)

Welcome, a few thing:
-Thermometer (digital w/probe) for monitoring the temps
-Something to regulate the temps with (Thermostat or Rheostat)
-If you're getting a hatchling just make sure the hides fit your snake and are snug, they're not likely to hang out in large open spaces.

Its good to see someone preparing and researching! Let us see a pic of your snake in his setup when you get him.
Cheers!

Dont forget the thermostat....the temp variations can be HUGE without one. I have the ZooMed 500R.... I got it at www.bigalsonline.com it was onlly like $27 including shipping. It is like $40-50 everywhere else.

Following what Jenn said, a cottage cheese conatiner for a hide is way to big. How did you attach the carpet, my worry on that would be the hachling trying to get under the carpet to feel secure. You could put a piece of carpet on top of aspen for a hatchling just loose, toilet paper tubes, pieces of pottery. They really want to feel tight in their hide.

I will get a therostat. For the cottage cheese container, I hot glued thr reptile carpet on. I made sure that there was no little "strings" left over from the hot glue.

One bigger hide (cottage cheese container) wont hurt, especially since you have other hides. ;)

Thanks. ;) It's one of those smaller cottage cheese conatiners. I cut a small hole in the side, big enough for the snake to fit through. :)

sounds good! Once you get the thermometer and thermostat you'll be good to go :0) Can't wait to see pics :0)

I love homemade hides! Butter boxes, paper towel rolls, etc!

Me too. :) I like the ones with reptile carpet on them and fake rocks. They are pretty neat.

Okay. So.. I decided if I paid for some of my corns price, then I may be getting the corn sooner. :) So.... We just got a $7.00 off if you spend $30 or more at petco. The corns are $40. I founded up $8 dollars as well. :) So that brings the price of the corn down to $25. That's more than half of the price. So now my mom just has to pay for the rest!! :) She said she would pay for it all, it's just she has to get the money to do so. But I offered her this deal. She said she will think about and I might be getting my corn very soon!!

Great idea, right... LOL.

Are you sure the cupon applies to animals? I used to work there, that doesn't sound like something petco normally does.

Also, please pleaaaase make sure the snake is healthy first. Don't just pick the snake because you're so excited to get one. If the snake looks unnaturally skinny (look at some of the hatchling pics here), if any of the skin seems like it's hanging off of the snake,if its got skin stuck to it, there appears to be any black dots on it, things like that. Don't pick that snake. Also if it's got a lump in it that means its just been fed and isn't done digesting yet, don't handle it and don't buy it.

Yes, I am sure that is from pet co and it does apply to animals as well. :) You have to spend $20 dollars of more and you get $7.00 off. Pet co does this all the time (just diff things). Like... before they did a think were you get 10% off. Ect, ect.

I know. I will look for a very healthy corn. The pet co near us takes good cage of their animals. Even the leopard geckos. They always look healthy and active. That's were I got my three leopard geckos to. :)

Thanks for the help Corny Noob! ;)

We're just really paranoid about petco here. I felt bad for our cirns, because despite me being like the top seller of corns, I actually worked in the fish department, so I couldn't get better conditions for them :(
