I wasn't sure where to put this, but then I remembered that the "Help! My snake keeps pooping on me" threads are usually posted here so I figured it was all right to post it here.
Two days after Xavier eats, I take him out of the tank to see if he's ready to poop. If he is, his "poop chamber" (that's what I call the area a little before the vent) is kind of bulging when you look at it from the side.
The pics are rather blurry b/c he didn't want to stay still and I had to hold him between my toes and one hand (The other hand had to hold the camera and press the shutter) but you can still kinda see the bulge.

I hold him for a while and watch him with an eagle eye. When he goes still (not even flicking his tongue out) and his vent starts to pulse, I know he's about to let loose and I shove some newspapers under him. Then I fold up the newspapers and throw them in the garbage. No need to play "find the poop in the aspen and scrape it off the glass" in the tank. I probably won't be able to do this when I have lots of snakes but I do this with him for now. The other babies are on paper towels and I just replace those whenever I see they've gotten soiled.
Gosh! I never thought I'd be writing about how I know when my snake is about to poop.
Hope this helped
