How Long?

A few questions about shedding and feeding. I am a first time snake owner, and I was curious, typically how long does a shed cycle take, once the snake's eyes turn noticeably blue? Also, how long can the snake go without food? He is still pretty young. I'm nervous because his first shed was perfect, but I was on vacation for it, so I don't know what to expect, and he has been all smoky eyed for the past four days, not moving, and no shedding either. I don't want to feed him, because I've been told they don't eat while in shed or whatever, but I don't want him to starve!

So, how long does it take for a snake to shed?

And, How long should I wait before being worried about feeding him?

Depends on the age of the snake. Generally the young they are, the more rpid the shed cycle. Hatchlings can go blue and shed in as little as 3 days. With my adults, the process tends to take about a week, sometimes longer.

Corns are evolved to go without food for weeks or months at a time. As long as yours has been eating regularly up to now and there are no other health concerns, delaying feeding for a shed will have absolutely no impact on him at all.

Shedding takes anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks with my snakes. During that time they will just stay quiet an hidden. Best to leave them alone. They go blue, clear up then shed. After they shed they are usually hungry to feed again. I've had my adults go weeks / months without eating so your little guy will be fine. Once he sheds you can offer him food again.
