How much to feed?

CornNana

New member
Hi All...

We have 2 new corns in our house. Both are females (they tell me) one snow and one normal. Both hatchlings from Aug 05. Anywho...the place we bought them from said to feed them once a week, one pinkie. (They were purchased from a reputable breeder) I'm wondering based on what I've read here if we should be feeding them more often. They are both about 14-16 inches long. I'm not sure what average growth is on these guys only that they only get to 4-5 feet long as adults.

Can anybody give me input regarding what is the best schedule for feeding them? As well as what kind of growth to expect out of them. They both seem really small to me but I don't know much of anything about how they grow!

Thanks for the input
Vicki

I'm no expert but; I'd go for feeding every 5-7 days. I think for the first few weeks that you should feed them less than they could eat, just to make sure they are digesting and discarding well...meaning once a week feedings. After you know the garden variety digestion period for your snake, then you can bump up the buffet line...if you want your snake to grow faster. All in all, once a week feedings for a lifetime works with most corn snakes (I think). It really depends on your preference....and if you are trying to get them up to breeding size quickly. Hope this "full of contradictions" response helps.

If you worrying about the size of your snake you could feed pinky every five day because they are not as nutritious and when you bump up to fuzzy or hoppers you can switch to seven days. But you have to decide what you plans are. As for the grow that goes hand and hand with feeding and the snakes genetic. But your not going to have a four foot corn in a year, threes years maybe. It vary with the snake.

Here a lot of other links to read if you want too.

Good luck
