I have an anery male that hatched out at the end of last July and he is a monster compared to my other hatchlings. As I was breeding two amels I kept hearing a noise from his cage. He kept climbing and fall from the top ledge of his 10 gal. tank. I was wondering if he could smell the breeding going on and was getting a bit aroused?
 
I don't know but I suppose he could smell all the pheromones from the female. Or maybe he was just feeling particularly active that day. Who knows. not me..;)
