Just had to share. Scott just had his 2nd short story accepted for publication. The first one is a psychological horror that will be published on Pseudopod (podcast audio books) and is currently in production.

This one was part of a 24 hour short story contest. Disclaimer: Story contains violence and the reminder that revenge is a dish best served very VERY cold.

If you're interested in reading it you can find the story here...

Not bad, but take this criticism from someone that reads way to much. I could see the characters, and hear thier conversation. But it didn't really feel like I was "there", because "there" didn't exist in the story. There was no atmosphere, no creaky floorboards, no cigarette half gone and smoldering in the ashtray. But it's a short story, not my preferred area. Probably adding all of that would have made it to long to be a short story :D I spend to much time with my face stuck in big long book series.

It was very well written, and a great real conversation. Much like real people would probably say, not to prim and proper and awkward. Good twist, slightly predictable but not in a way to ruin the story, just in a way that made you want to continue reading.

Yeah, unfortunately, he was limited to 900 words for the story. He had to cut a few paragraphs that added some "meat" to the story. He also really wanted to add to the ending. His plan was to revise it and resubmit it, but it got accepted. He does have plans to potentially turn the idea into a novel, but he's still sketching out ideas.

Ahh, I see. I was wondering what made a short story "short" Very well done then with what little he had to work with.
