Peeple of zee wurl, relax
In seven months I have lost two snakes. Luckily I was able to trap my first one pretty quickly, but I am not feeling so good about this recent loss.

It was my boy Leonard who was going to be my big stud when it came breeding time. He's a sweet looking hurricane amel from Joe Pierce and it makes me sick that he's gone. I set some traps last night and I hope that they work, but I live in a old building with tons of snakey hiding places and I don't feel very confident.

But this to me is another reason of why I need to switch over to a rack system. I have 5 little tanks set up and apparently his lid wasn't secured tightly enough and he was out of there. Which is weird since I double check them all the time. I must have missed something...I feel so dumb right now.

Grrrr.

Thanks guys...

I just feel stupid actually and sad. Looks wise he was my stunner, even my non-snake friends thought he was a nice looking. I hope I can catch him but if not hopefully Joe still has that last male from the clutch available.

But regardless I am getting a rack ASAP. I can't lose anymore of my snakes.

Don't lose hope, there's a good chance he'll still turn up yet :)
All I can advise is to try and seal off anywhere he may go in to (under floorboards etc) and use the old tricks, pop bottle traps, paper bags on the floor, flour in the doorway, etc. I expect you are already trying all of that.
A rack definetly sounds like a wise choice!

Sorry for your loss. One suggestion that might help you. Lowe's has light duty tie-down straps. On my only tank(29 gal) with a screen lid, I use one of those. It has a little ratchet that gets it nice and tight...escape proof. Hopefully you will find him. Good luck.

John

Thanks

That is a good idea to put on my vivs now until I get the rack...I am going to recheck all of my traps as well.

The only other thing that I am worried about is if my dog finds him first. Normally she ignores them, but if he goes crawling across the floor I think her instincts will kick in. I hope not, but I know her pretty well.
