I went to pick up my Blizzard corn last night, and the darn thing started wiggling it's tail just like a Rattler. I imagine that this is normal defensive behavior, but I had no idea that they did this. It made a neat sound on the newspaper, and I suppose that in dried leaves, the effect would have been much more effective.
 
Yep you're right - that's a pretty normal defensive behaviour for a nervous new Corn. He'll stop once he's got it into his head that you're not dangerous. Some of them get it straight away, others can take a few weeks to calm down.

Always sounds good against paper!
 
hahaha, I just got rattled at by my new corn! I've had him for over a week and today was the first day he "rattled" me when I went to put him in his tupperware container to weigh him. I startled me.

The experts say its normal, but I still felt bad for stressing the little guy out!

What do you do when they 'rattle'? Just put them back in their vivs and let them cool down?
 
My Okeetee rattles when she is feeding, right before and during. I think that she is just a bit keyed up. My king does it too.
 
My "Rattlecorn" scared the crap out of my friends that I had watching my snakes while I was on vacation! :grin01:
 
If they're rattling at you while you are handling them don't put them back in the viv until they've calmed down. You don't want to teach it that rattle/offensive behaviour=freedom! I've got some that rattle every single time I get them out but then turn to calm putty once in my hands. I also have a weird one that never rattles before I get it out then rattles as soon as I put her down. I guess she's annoyed the cuddle session is over :)
