I'm gonna follow the instructions and raise my terarrium up off of my dresser, Im gonna use some 1"x1" wood at each end since the rubber things they sent arent tall enough. I kind of don't want to use the sticky part of the mat to stick to the glass, Ive read on here to use the metal type tape.. but is it safe to leave the paper backing on the sticky side of the mat? Im also going to buy a small square of indoor/outdoor type carpet, softest I can find and tape it the same size as the mat on the inner side of the glass. hopefully through that and the sub my corn will still be warm.

I'm gonna pick up a lamp dimmer at walmart tonight also.. my thermometer should arrive pretty soon

I haven't done it before but I've heard of people buying a ceramic tile and sticking the heat pad to that. It then lets you move it around as needed. As long as you control the temperature you shouldn't need the carpet on the inside - it shouldn't get that hot IMO.

I bought some 8 X 10 photo frames at the .99 cent store and used the glass to stick my heat pads on. Works great.

I just left the paper on the uth and use duck tape to stick it on the bottom of the tank. I do that so I can pull it off when it gets clean.
The tile ideal sound good too. Oh yeah I build a wooden frame to raise the viv.
Good luck with it.

I already made plans to make a 1" wooden frame, so i was on the right track at least haha. The photo frame is a good idea too, does it still allow the heat to transfer pretty good?

I didn't use the frame itself, just stuck the uth onto the piece of glass I took out of the frame. The heat goes thru the glass perfectly, and I can move the uth any time I want and reuse it.

Oh i meant frame as in wooden frame to lift the tank off my dresser lol. I went and bought a 8x10 picture frame like you mentioned, and it works perfect. still waiting on my thermometer though before i put it under the tank. I also bought a lamp dimmer!
