I made my snakes lid...

I made my snakes lid out of some wood that i bought and it has a pretty strong wood smell could this harm my snake? :( Or should it be ok? I don't know what kind of wood it is. ?

Chances are it was pine. I can't say with authority (so break out many grains of salt), but I'd say you're probably okay. I'm presuming you only used the wood to frame a lid and that the whole lid isn't made of wood? Also, the wood was probably kiln dried which takes out much of the fumes that can be problematic. Lastly, since it's just the lid, I'd guess that a lot of any fumes that might still come out of the wood will waft away and not 'sink' down into your snake's enclosure.

Given those assumptions, you're probably okay. The frame to the rack I built was definitely pine, and have seen no problems with the snakes I keep in it.

Admit it, Bruce.

Now that you've seen her photo, you'll respond positively to anything Stacey posts.

"Given that, it's probably alright that you killed those puppies. They more than likely had parvo virus, anyways."

Was it thatTRANSPARENT?

Okay, I'll admit to this much... I read this thread before I saw her picture, but didn't immediately reply because I wasn't positive of my answer. But then I went back and replied anyway because when has not knowing I was correct stopped me before?

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :uhoh:

Come on Bruce, you still had no answer..."Chances are I can't say with authority (grains of salt), probably okay." That is your first sentence.

You were determined to talk to her weather you had anything to say or not. And I saw her first!!!

Hi Stacey, Are there holes in the wood for air? I think the biggest problem you will have is keeping the humidity down. Also how secure it the lid?

Yeah there are a few drill holes in the wood and its secure enough, i was just worried about the smell cause its quite strongish.

Your taking about the lid, right susang and not about MerlinsPop or Jazzgeek.

Talk to her about "weather?" No! Breakfast, on the other hand...

Nah... pic or no pic, yesterday was supberbly boring at work (I had plenty to do, just didn't wanna!), so I would have replied regardless.

momentarily attempting to be serious, on a Friday, even...

With the whole lid being wood, I'd be more concerned about the humidity as Susan said, along with the wood absorbing moisture, unless it is sealed. Moist wood could lead to things growing that you don't want growing around your snake. Unless it is pressure treated, but then you've got worse chemicals to worry about.

If it were mine, I'd probably cut out some large squares and staple in some metal mesh to allow better airflow.

A picture would be good. Of the LID, Wade.... the lid!
