I Went To A Funeral Today

It was for the mother of a friend of my wife. The lady was 83. Well, I'm only 58 (Yes, children, that is still young to be thinking about a funeral.), but I always come away from these things thinking about how prepared I am for my own end. Morbid, huh, but I'm practical that way.

The relevant thing is, I need to make some arrangements for my snakes. Neither my wife or daughter is even going to water my snakes after I'm gone. So how many of you people have contingency plans for your snakes should you have a long illness or die? Actually, your snakes are probably less of a worry than a cat or dog, which would surely be dead if you didn't feed them or water them for a week.

Having spent a large portion of my life writing emergency response plans, I have a pretty good idea about how to go about it. However, it occurs to me that this forum would be a good clearing house for ideas. Anybody actually made plans to place your snakes in an emergency? I would like to hear whatever ideas you all have, especially those of you who live alone.

I don't have a real plan set up, but my sisters both keep snakes, so they would probably take over, and sell whatever they didn't want to keep (which would be most of them). Thanks for the reminder; I really should make the small effort to formalize this plan...

Wow, big wake-up call! While even at the ripe old, married, two kids age of 36 (in June) I have pondered the inevitability of death, I do not have a plan in place for my hobby/business. Guess I need to get on the ball with that one as I too have a wife that enjoys the success I have with my hobby, but does not necessarily enjoy the hobby itself. :shrugs:

Sorry to hear about the funeral :/

I myself would be very sure that (if, hopefully not) but if i did pass on, that my mum would look after Damien, she may not be a huge fan of snakes, but she would do it because she knows he means alot to me..

I told my friend I want to buried face down and a hole in my coffin for people to go by and low five me. I figure people would be sad I died, but when they see me face down wanting a low five they'll think "oh that crazy boots"

Now that I type this I might have a recording that is motion sensored of me saying "alright" everytime someone walks by

If anything happens to me, my husband will sell off pretty much all of my snakes, with a few exceptions. He doesn't have a clue about what's what or who's who in my collection, so I have an Excel spread sheet with info on each snake and their name on their tub so he can put it all together. We're close to someone in the local herp society so he can use her as a resource. She and a few other friends would pitch in and help out if it was only me, or both of us, to die. We do need to put a $$ amount in our wills to fund any rescue or rehoming that would need to be done. I'm more worried about our cats, whom no one seems to want. The snakes would be taken in by several good people, but our cats would likely wind up at the animal shelter, which makes me sick to even think about.
