Went to the beach yesterday. Stopped by WalMart first to get sunblock and my credit card was no good. Called Visa. They wanted to know what I was doing in Philly spending $2,400 at Lowes when I live in Fla. I told them no idea, I haven't been there for weeks. They are taking off the charges and are sending me a different card. We (Visa and myself) suspect somebody had set up a scanner at my gas station as that was the last time I used my card 4 days ago. This has been going on in my area for some time so I have been extra vigilant. I am very aware of my surroundings and always cover my hand when I need to enter a PIN # or something. I always take care to look for tampering on anything I slide my card though and I noticed nothing. I still got hit.

Be careful. Use a real credit card, not something connected to your bank account. I use my credit card and my credit card only for 95% of purchases just in case something like this happens. Visa lost their money, not mine. Had I used my debit card, I would be out an entire paycheck right now. Yes, I would have gotten it back but you don't get it back right away. You have to fight for it and it can take a few weeks. Since it was not my money that disappeared, I can still buy food, gas, and pay my mortgage. If I used a debit card with a Visa logo, I would not be able to say that right now.

Identity theft is a pain. I had my identity stolen from a check (don't use them anymore) and they got into my bank account electronically as well. The bank replaced the money very fast, I think it was a day or so, I didn't have to fight, but I did have to do a lot of paperwork.

WOw... That is crazy... I am glad that you got it taken care of so easily and that you have the money back for what you need...
