Hi, I wanted to get my tank all pimped for my new hatchling for whenever I find him and get him. So before that I would like some info on what you thought about my setup. Sorry no pictures yet, just ordered some stuff online at www.reptiledepot.com Also anyone order a snake online?

I will be listing each item with a link leading to a picture of the item.

? Thinking of getting this - Outlet 1,000wt Electronic Temperature Controller with Probe (This amazing thermostat will maintain any preselected temperature between 60 and 105 degrees) )()()(Do I need this? Cost $20.)()()()(

I think thats all I have so far. Only cost $50 with shipping. Keep in mind this is for a Baby corn snake and will be getting a new tank after 6-12 month if recommended. Also if i wanted to get two baby corn snakes could they live in the same cage and how big should the cage be? Thank You for any info or help!

Be sure to find a way to lock that plastic clear lid. Snakes can pop that open without much of a problem.

A thermostat would be a very good choice. Having it too high would probably melt the plastic. You'd probably be better off with a 10 gallon tank, though.

Good job on the digital thermometer.

I pretty much agree with Joe, but since you e-mailed and asked me specifically to review this post~ here are a few specific points:

1. The Tank. IF it's what I think it is the lid will be fine~ but you kind of need to be able to put your hands on it to tell. If it's the kind I think the lid snaps very tightly and is difficult for you to remove, and the little door in top does as well~ this will work fine. If you can't put your hands on the tank to check this~ go ahead and call your supplier and ask~ or buy your tank from Petco~ I've seen those there and you would be able to check the snugness of the lid. That tank should be fine for a baby~ you'll need a larger tank (20 long is good) for an adult.

2. Forest bark. Thats good~ make sure it's not too wet (leave it in the sun for a day if it starts too wet, it can be slightly moist~ but not damp) I like shaved Aspen, it's cheaper~ but that forest bark sure does look nice!

3. I think you will be alright with just the under tank heater~ with that plastic cage I wouldn't want to use a heat lamp~ that just screams fire hazard.

4. The water bowl. Don't spend a lot of money on a bowl unless you want it to please YOU visually. The snake doesn't care what the bowl looks like~ any old bowl will do.

5. Cover~ Thats your hide? It will be good when the snake is larger. If your getting a baby its too big. They like a tight hide, and can squeeze MUCH smaller than you think!! For a baby just take a couple empty Toilet paper roll tubes and squish them~ so they are mostly flat. Put one on the warm side, one on the hot side. You can put your pretty hide on top of that to hide it from sight if you want. The snake will hide in the tube, under the tube, or in any tight area's between the tube and the hide.

6. Great thermometer! That thing is sweet!

7. Yes~ a thermostat is a good idea. Your UTH can get VERY hot, and snakes are just not all that bright. I've seen one cook itself (litterally) on a heat lamp I didn't think she could get too. If you don't have anyway to control how much heat that UTH is putting off you could have real problems in the future.

Finally~ two babies in one cage. Bad idea. Corns are not usually canabilistic, but the babies are very oppurtunistic feeders~ and I have seen them attempt to eat each other (usually killing both snakes in the process). This is not as much of a risk when the snakes get older~ Some people do it with adults and babies anyway~ but I wouldn't try it. On the bright side you can double up some of your equipment if you get two. If both of your cages are right next to each other (or one on top of the other) you can use the same Thermometer and Thermostat for both.

Hope that covered it all.
Good luck with your new baby!
