Is Brumation neccesary for corn snakes? If i breed my snakes without brumating them will there still be eggs? I have read about brumation but I am wondering if there is another way I can do it. If anyone has any techniques please let me know. Thanks! :)

The easiest way to get the female to cycle, and breed is to brumate. Although some will breed without brumation, others won't.

I've bred the last 2 years without brumating. Granted on a small scale, but it can be done.

It can easily be done without brumation. My first two years of breeding were from cohabitating corns in an educational display at my university. Also, when I worked at the zoo the corns bred every year and we never changed a thing. However, all those instances were cohabitating and the males and females were together at the right time. One of the major reasons for brumation is to set the reproductive cycles so you can observe the breeding and keep it on a schedule so to speak.

I've been breeding succesfully for over 10 years and have never brumated mine.

Brumation seems to improve fertility and increase clutch size. As a hobby breeder (not dependant on Corns for income), this isn't an issue for me. However, you'll probably find the more serious hobbyists and commercial breeders brumating. Not only does it give slightly better results, but if you care for a warehouse full of snakes, it gives a couple of months' breathing space in the winter.
