well, its friday night, 00.45 (12:45 for u n00bz, heheheh) and i put him in his tank on wednesday afternoon

he seems more comfortable i think, he's just sleeping or lazing about on the substrate next to the glass, his tree spot was like 24° and where he is now its like 28.5° hahah

would it be ok to handle him now already? or should i wait a full 5 days ?
or is this a sign of him adjusted to his new home already

i saw him yawn twice :D and drink water :) all this evening :p so cute
 
he's so cute, at the moment he's getting nice and comfortable in the front of the tank, next to the thermometer :p it read 28.8° (83.84° f)

i'll try handle him tomorow evening maybe.

oh, and i put in a papertowel roll thing, but he only used it once, as a step to get to his tree, heheheh
 
For hatchlings I wait untill they've had at least a few meals without a problem before any handling, I never handle them (unless nessicary of course) untill they've eaten at least once for me.
 
well he's +- 4 months old i think, around 30cm long

but i'll have to handle him to feed him ? i dont wana feed him on the substrate..
 
As DaemoNox mentioned, he wouldn't handle unless neccessary, that includes handling briefly for feeding.
I started handling when he was settled in, I knew when he stopped hiding all the time and was out all evening every night try to get out.
 
I've handled all mine usually after 3-4 days of getting them used to their new place. I've also fed them all outside of their tanks unless they were showing too much nervousness. Then I would put paper towel in, and feed them in the tank until they had gotten a little more calm. I also did not handle them until they showed more signs of eating properly. Mine still don't come out all the time, so I could be waiting forever to take them out if I waited until they came out. A lot of them don't get active until very late in the evening too, so I usually just get them out when I can. As far as editing, you can't unless you're a contributor.

well i handled him just now, he had been in his tank at least 4 and a 1/2 days. but he pood on me after like +- 4min !! haha
i guess they save some for self defence ?

i didnt put him back in the tank right after he poopd me, i cleaned it off my pants as best i could an held him another 2min or so (dont want him to learn if he craps on me he can leave, right?)

other than that i think it went ok?
he was a little nervouse at 1st, but no biting or tail shaking :)just sometimes his head went into an s shape, but then he thought *hmm rather not* hehe
 
sounds like he is well settled to me, i am quilty of being very anxious to handle hatchlings as soon as i can. But like everyone says it is best to wait.

hello all. we are just about ready to handle our new ghost corn as he has been in his new home for about 4 days now. my question is this. he likes to hang out in this hollow log. is it ok to get him from that place or do we have to wait until he is out before we try handling? we would really like to get hime used to human touch as soon as possible. thanks for the advice.

hmm, i've only had my 1st sanek for like 7 days now, so.. take my advise with some grains of salt :p hehehe

i would wait till late evening or early morning for my snake to be awake and exploring..
but
i have read from some other posts that some ppl just wake them up and handle them, then they can explore their tank at night undisturb ?

but i dont know...
maybe the snake will be less freaked out if he's crawling around his tank when u take him out for handeling.
my snake seems preddy mellow, hehe. maybe you should just try it and see :p

or wait for more replies, lol
 
I would just take it out from where it is. If you wait for it to come out from hiding you could be waiting forever. A lot of them won't come out until the middle of the night. Just lift the log, put your hand gently under the body and take it out.
 
thanks meg. the thing is, it is a hollow, decorative log, and he likes to stay inside the log. my question is how do i get him out? do you suggest i sort of fish him out gently with a smooth stick? thanks for the advice.

I think she said use your hand. If this snake is a hatchling you have no worries. Just do what you have to do to get the snake , just gently.
 
finally got him out, after a bit of prodding. he seemed ok during the handling session. tomorrow, we feed! do i feed in the tank, or out of it? any suggestions?

hey,
i just posted on another thread a bit about feeding. my two cents anyway. heh. i use a seperate container. any old tupperware container is ok. but i use the same one all the time. so they assoicate that same container with feeding. i don't reccommend hand feeding. if you do feel in it's current viv then i'd change the spots you put the food in. is it live or thawed? make sure it's thawed if it was frozen! lol
