Is mt snake stupid???

Is my snake stupid???

my corn snake started shedding last night, first breaking the skin at it's nose and trying to get it off, he then started rubbing against the bark and his skin came off in flakes. when I helped him out this morning I found his skin was slack and his tail (skin) came off in a hole piece when I gave him a hand, Are they supposed to break the skin and then trap it under something and wriggle out??? My snakes skin seemed fine but it just didn't trap it. Is this normal???

Thanks,

Andy

There are anumber of reasons why your snake's shed didn't come off in one piece. Has it ever shed in one piece?

Well, that's how they usually do it. Break the skin at the nose and then trap, or plaster, it onto something then roll out of it. Freshly shed skin is really stickey. I once noticed my snake had nearly come out of his skin, but the head had come loose and he was just dragging it behind him. I holded the skin for him and gave him the change to crawl out of the rest. It stuck to my hands. It's stickey untill it dries up.

It should come out in one piece though. How high is the humidity in your viv?

I never realized that they were sticky until my Sweets shed, I must have just missed it becouse when I picked it up it was very sticky. That sneaky little snake! I used a humid hide and his shed was perfect! :)

my humidity is usually between 50 and 60 but I misted the viv so it was between 60-70. It hasn't ever shed in a whole piece before but this is only the second. I had a humidity box and a large water bowl.
