Is this okay? heat tape Q.

Could I run 4-inch heat tape across the length of a 12 qt tub? Would that be okay, I'd have a hide that is half on, half off in each tub. This is for hatchlings. And, how long can a hatchling stay in a 6-quart tub if it is put on a once-a-week maintenence diet? Thanks!

Usually heat tape is supposed to be run on 1/3 of the floor surface of the tub. to provide a hot side and a cool side. They can stay in the for a while. But each snake grows differently so there is no standard answer on a time frame. Just make sure you have a good thermostat on the heat tape.

Unless it's a VERY large hide; having a hide that is half-on and half-off of the heat tape does not constitute a valid temp gradient.

"Maintenance" or under feeding, is not advised. Growing snakes need food to grow and be healthy.

That would be like me asking how little could I feed you so you can wear the same clothes from the 2nd to the 8th grade.

In regards to the hides. Just toss two toilet paper tubes in there, or cut one in half and use two pieces. Hide can be made for free out of anything and one needs to be on heat and one fully off heat.
