okay so I got Jose on Sunday, Nov. 15th. From my previous post I am completely new to this. I have left him alone other than to change his water. No holding or messing with him and he is not in a high traffic area. Just for recap, I have no idea how old he is, when he (if ever) ate, what he ate, or when he shed.

I go the scale today and the moss to help with humidity. So while changing his water today I did weigh him. He weighed in at 6.8g....after digging through some of the posts on here...I'm seeing that is a normal "I just hatched" weight. Could he really be as young as a week or so old? What do I need to do for him if he is that little? Does it change things? He is still extremely freaked out by me. Just weighing him he was all over the place ... and he was only out of his home for maybe 2 minutes...

Please help...

The first few times I handled hatchlings, they were squirmy and terrified. I think they could sense my apprehension. It's just going to take time and patience, but eventually he should settle down. Little babies are very flighty, some more than others, so give him a chance to get used to you and grow out of that stage.

As far as weight goes, that's about what Tango weighed when he first arrived and he'd had 4 meals. Don advised that I get day old pinks, so I ordered 25 from Layne Labs. He now weighs 17g and I have 4 left feeding two at a time lol. Wish I could have ordered fewer! So if you can find some locally maybe try to get a few just to be sure he can eat, but really you'll be surprised how much they can fit in their little mouths.

I got him a 2g pinkie and have tried to feed him....he freaks out and hides from it...I tried wiggling it, touching his nose to it, and leaving it for him....he just goes the other way like the thing is trying to eat him....

The scary human looming over him is probably a bit much. Try putting him with the pinky in an upright paper bag on the warm side of his viv. You can just roll the top shut. Give him some quiet alone time for a couple hours and see if he eats then. If he does, just tip the open bag over gently and let him go about his merry way as he sees fit. Sometimes little babies get scared when food is just thrust in their faces. For my first feeding, I had to let him calm down for a few minutes before he would so much as look at it. Now he is perfectly calm in his feeding bin, as though he knows it's food time.

That makes a lot of sense...ok so lunch bag closed up it is...Thank you so much...I will keep ya posted if this works for him :)

WE HAVE SUCCESS!!! Thank you so much!!! I did just as you said and the hubby and I went out for dinner. Came back and he has a full tummy! Will I need to do this again next week????
