Hey to all you breeders. i have just ran into a little bit of a problem at my place. some how a dam* squirrel got into my grage couple weeks back and i seem to have lice in with my rats now. never had this problem before and i dont know how to get ride of them with out having to take them to a vet and im not taking 500 rats and 2000 mice to the vet. if anyone haves any thing that could help please let me know. thanks.

You can get Ivermectin Pour-On for cattle at any farm store - use the 5mg per ml strength. Dilute it 5 parts water to one part Iver in a spray bottle and mist the mice, rats and their bedding lightly. Repeat the treatment a week later to get the full life cycle. It's cost effective, works great, and is also effective on internal parasites. I do it every couple months as a preventative measure.

thank you. i just went out to the farm store and they gave me this red lake earth stuff. she said it will do the trick plus its safe for them to eat. but thank you i will keep that in mind tho just in case it doesn't work. i will update this when i get my results in the next couple weeks. also how much is the ivermectin and how much do you get?

You should be able to get a 250ml bottle for less than $20 - and because you are diluting it and using such a small amount it does last for a very long time. Most often my bottles expire before I can use it all. The DE is a good starting point - if you are not too heavily infested it should do the trick.

o sweet. yeah its not that bad. i just seen my mice had a lot of hair lose and one of my breeder rats died on me and seen something crawling on them so i looked and there it was. ok but thank you i will see if the de works if not i will try the ivermectin.

I give Ivermectin horse wormer on peanut butter chips. I have less than 20 rats though. These vets are ridiculous. I called one and she said $55.00 PER animal plus meds. 'Lady, rats are kept in colonies, not per animal. So I self treat everything to the best of my ability. Mites are also a problem. I have aggressive isolation policies for anything new.
