Live or F/T...that is the question!

Debating whether to feed my BP live or F/T.

I am leaning more towards live, I think it is healthier and after all it is more natural.

I will be supervising the entire feeding reguardless of what I feed Irwin.

If I were to get frozen it would be from PetCo, and I do not trust their mice.

Also, it would be easier to get live mice because we feed our corn live as well.

Open to suggestions/opinions. Don't worry about getting panties in a twist either.

Yep, that is the question, and it's been asked and answered in a thousand threads. :grin01: And the answer is still the same: f/t is unquestionably better for snakes than live. Any rodent past the fuzzy stage can inflict damage on a snake faster than you can prevent it. And who cares about "natural" when you're keeping a snake in a glass or plastic box? I wouldn't trust Petco f/t mice either. Thankfully there are dozens of other options.

I have a few snakes (non-corns) that are giving me a hard time by refusing f/t and only accepting live. If you have no choice... you have no choice. But if they'll take f/t, it's the best way to go.

Up in Chico, we do not have a great selection of where to get food for our snakes, unfortuanatly.

I'll bet that it's no worse there than where I live. Pet stores around here charge $3+ for live mice of ANY size. But I get my mice from Texas. Dry ice and FedEx make it a small world. ;)

I use the gourmet rodent brand sold at petco, I havent had any problems at all. I actually trust them over the ma and pop store whos mice and rats all have holes in their heads and bodies.....

anyway I would say 89234% f/t live is not worth the risks, and its a pain in the rear end to go out and buy a live mouse/rat every feeding day.

Frozen or Live..
"I prefer feeding live over frozen cause its more natural."
As quoted by the famous Col. Sherman T. Potter "This is a bunch of BULL HOCKEY!!!"

I see this on every forum where beginners think it is more natural and its not. Do you know Zoos feed all there herps Frozen?? They do this for the very reason dean posted in #2.

Plus, its so much easier to make a phone call or go to a website and order yourself a variety of foods of your animals.
