lizards in tank

i got like 8 or 9 lizards in my snakes tank is that ok, he hasnt eaten anything for about a week, oh and i changes my substrate too this green carpety stuff is that a good substrate

I don't think it's such a good idea to have so many live lizards running around, scaring the snake, especially since it's only been a week since the snake's last feeding- There's nothing wrong with that at all. Take the lizards out.

how many lizzards should i leave in? or do i take all of them out? what do u think about my adjustments? here is a pic of the ways i HAD my tank

The tank is fine but you should really have a hide at both ends. I'd say take all the lizards out- It's not wise to have a live animal in with your snake. If you are planning on feeding them to your snake, I'd alternate them with mice so that she doesn't go off mice all together. I'd also kill the lizards first by smacking them hard against a solid surface.

my snake hasnt eaten mice yet i tried twice already and he doesnt want it, i am waiting for it to get really hungry or till it eats a lizzard and goes into feeding mode to try again. mice down hear are expensive! will corn snakes eat other snakes? just wonderin.....

They very, very ocassionally eat other snakes but they're not part of their diet and shouldn't be offered. If you're having real problems getting the snake to eat mice I'd say release it back into the wild and buy a captive born snake and feed it mice- They're not expensive at all if you buy them online.

You can also try rubbibing a lizard on the mouse before you feed, so the mouse will smell more like your snake's chosen prey (lizards).

That hide is too big for that snake. Ideally it should have someplace small, tight and dark so it can cram in and feel really secure.

you may want keep an eye on that type of bedding as it is very hard to spot clean and ican hold an awful lot of bacteria if not washed thourghly at least once a week. as for the lizards i would take them all out because the snake is a wild caught and is not used to food being in such larges numbers in its territory. remember she was used to hunting for her food, so those lizards may scare the appetite right out of her. if mice are expensive why not breed your own. you only need a ten gallon tank, one male, and three females. that will keep on snake content for a long time, . and remember mice breed year round and are worse then rabbits.

buying a new snake is not cheap, to buy a snake as big as the one i have now will cost about 75$ if i orders one its 20 dollars but 38$ s/h

haha

You really need to do some research. You claim buying a snake is not cheap...well get ready for something even more expensive....taking CARE OF A SNAKE!

Even though you think you got yours for free, you are wrong. The growing needs of the wild caught snake will end up costing you way more than you would pay for a nice Captive Bred cornsnake that doesn't have the same problems.

A. Even though your vet said no parasites, its wild caught AND most vets do NOT have the equiptment to catch some parasites and samples must be sent off which takes a few days longer. This could happen with your snake.

B. Since you are feeding it lizards now, I assure you as soon as it eats one it WILL have parasites. This is a fact as you are feeding wild caught lizards and lizards are FULL of parasites, even ones from the pet store can be full of them. This will require you to get your snake de-wormed when it starts eating mice.

You are not "getting off cheap" by keeping this snake and not having to pay for another CB corn. You are actually going to cost yourself MORE in the long/semi-long run.

Have fun.

Aint..........I have to voice my opinion............Are you reading peoples responses to your questions?.........I've read several of your threads and replies and to me it seems like you don't really want to take the advice you've been given..........Most of these people are very knowledgeable about corn snakes..........

I purchased my first corn over 10 years ago and still am learning from the great advice these people give.........I don't mean to attack you or sound harsh but you really should listen to these guys......

In my opinion (and it is ONLY my opinion, you don't have to listen) you should release this animal and try to find a captive bred snake.........

you WILL save yourself a great deal of money (vet bills and uneaten mice you have to discard) by getting an animal you know is healthy (provided you get it from a reliable source)

you may be killing the animal as it isn't used to being caged...the stress could keep it from ever feeding, plus it can't be happy since it once knew what freedom was

you should do this soon beacause you are damaging this animal every day you keep it. a corn can go quite a long time without eating but it could forget how to hunt for food. every day it doesn't eat is a day closer to death. if you wait to let it go it may never feed again and if you wait to release it, it could still die.

Is that something you would want to be responsible for? I'm sorry if I sound harsh but I feel strongly about wild caught animals...I've had some animals die because I couldn't save them (not wild caught) and it feels horrible...you have a chance to SAVE this animal by releasing it. that animal shouldn't have to give it's life (if it doesn't ever feed) because you couldn't afford a CB baby.....several people have suggested this to you and I think it is the best advise you could follow..........

if you look around you could probably find a baby corn for under $30....it might take a month or two..but then you would have a snake you could raise from the beginning and there is a great feeling with that.......

I hope this doesn't anger you, thats not what I meant to do.... I just hope you do whats right for the animals because THEY are what's important

hey, if you are only paying $75 to buy a CB snake, you are getting off lucky!!! I paid $150 for the one that i have. And she was 4' (4 feet) when i got her !!!!! All together the day i bought her, it cost me over $300 !!!!!!! But she was well worth it! The mice that i get are frozen and cost me about $1.75 per mouse. So ispend about * or 9 dollars a month to feed her. Not too bad!!!!!!! Anyway good luck!!!

Exactly

If someone thinks 75 is too much for a CB snake, they are in for a REAL wake up if they think they are going to save money on a WC! *LOL* its true. But sad that people still think they can get "free" reptiles by catching them wild.

One other reason to release the corn is legality. Assuming that he collected the corn locally, it was taken from a protected population. $75 for a snake pales in comparison to fines and court costs.

Setting legalities aside for a moment, it would definitely be in the corn's best interest if it were released at its point of capture. It is obviously not adapting well to captivity.

well my snake did finally eat a mouse 2day, i guess i should take ur advice but i feel kinda stupid cuz i paid for he vet and spent all my money just 2 realease it ya know? well i got an interview next week for a jod at the pet shop (pet shop here has no snakesor any thing just iguanas and a turtle) and i guess i can just stop being a cheap ass and just buy a new corn, but b4 i release it, should i realease it even if it ate my mouse? i feel bad cuz i grew so attatched to aunt jemima:(
