Seriously, our kitten brought this right in the front door, without apparent harm to the snake. It was a little stunned, so my son insists he will stay with us until he runs around normally. It's a juvenile, and may reach 8 feet at maturity. It's a non-venemous colubrid. If you look at its tail, you'll see where it gets its name.

It's a Red Coachwhip, Masticophis Flagellum piceus, native to Southern Nevada in the Mojave Desert. Since I live on the edge of hundreds of miles of empty nothing , it no doubt thought it was totally safe from human dangers.

Luckily for the kitten, this was not a baby Mojave Green, North America's second most poisonous snake.

I would also like to note, although they seem to be blah looking as babies, these guys have tendency to to a very nice reddish pink as adults, and are extremely agile, and pretty well fearless!
