Not so long ago things were pretty dismal. I ended up in the ER with chest pains and during my stay passed out on the hospital bed while sitting up. Soon after I had a kidney stone. I've struggled with my weight all my life and as of November '08 was at a lifetime high of 348 lbs. Over the previous year I'd been trying to save money to buy a car, but the company I was working for wasn't doing so well and I hadn't had a raise in two years. Then I got word I was being laid off.

It was grim.

But things had already shown signs of change. At the same time I learned I was being laid off my sister's boyfriend won a contract for a logistics company to do the home deliveries in Calgary for Sears and he needed a Contract Supervisor. It paid a fair chunk more than I've ever made in my life.

I've now been doing the job for four weeks. It is a great job so far, one of the best I've had. I'm down to 306 lbs and my habits have so completely changed I lose 2 pounds a week without even feeling like I'm trying. My heart and kidneys have been healthy and my checkups at the doctor show I'm in excellent health.

And as of yesterday, I have this:

A 2009 Subaru Impreza, a car I've been wanting for years. I've had so much good news recently I almost can't believe it. :)

Well good for you! Glad to hear that you're on the road to good health and in a sporty new car! Keep up the good work, Nova!!

Good for you. I hope you continue to get better, and stay in good health. It's especially good for you to tackle it now while your young. Some people go their whole lives before they start to change their life-styles, and for many it's too late by then.
On a side note; nice car!. I don't know much about cars, but it looks shiny so that's good.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It's been pretty exciting. :)

Ricky: The Impreza is an AWD car based on Subaru's rally car. I have the base trim, so it hasn't got the 'extras', but this car is pretty loaded anyway. 170 bhp engine, manual 5 speed, power everything, keyless entry, auxiliary audio port for my iPod... :)

Thats sweet. I'm not privvy to the numbers, but I'm guessing it's nice. You must really love the Ipod hook-up, too. Thats something I think every car should have. I hate having to hook a discman up to the car through this cheesy tape-deck system. You have to keep pushing the tape in every 12 seconds, and the sound quality is putrid. I don't have an Ipod anyway either, but I have my music on PSP, which I think would still work through the Ipod hook-up.
Have fun with your car, and good luck towards your weight loss. Once it's gone it's gone, so keep at it and just think about how great it will be to be completely healthy. Going to the ER for chest pains must be scary as hell, but it can be a positive if you just see that it sparked a new ambition. Now you have your whole life to stay healthy, and it will give you a lot more oppurtunities.

Sweet a Subaru.. I'll have my Baja oneday :) I am really happy to see things have turned upwards for you :) Congratulations..

dont let the awd fool you in snow. keep the pedal down if you start to slide. no joke. subies will work with you if you keep just driving. congrats on things lookin up for you. im laid off and on the search for a job. i live with my rents so i dont pay rent or nothing. and my car is totaled an off the road. so nothing to pay for other than animals. but hopefully i find a good job soon. cause i dont wanna be called back to my other one. i hate it.

Congrats on a wave of good news, landing a sweet job in this resession is a task in itself, combined with some easy weight loss and a sweet new subie thats just awesome man, good for you. The subie will be good to you, I had an 04 imprezza (wrx-sti) and it is one of my favorate cars I have ever owned, treated me righ even with regular trips to the drag strip and extreme abuse street racing, not that you would do that but its nice to know the car will take it with a smile. again congratulations and I hope life gets even better for you!
