Macros and New Camera

it has a flower icon usually. I recommend a Kodak Z700, you can find a lens adapter tube on Ebay for like $7 and macro lenses can be found for a decent price if you want to get a little closer, but not a requirement.

I have found that point and shoot cameras with a zoom and macro function work best, and should be right in your budget.

Check out DPReview.com for info on cameras.

As near as I can tell with looking it up online, yes. Your camera does come with a macro feature, with a macro focus range of 5cm.

But, that's about all I can tell you. I still can't get the macro feature on my camera figured out, heh. I was always a little slower than normal though. :D

Ok whats this about macro????? My camerea got the lil flower icon on it and i dont' know what its for nor have I ever used it. Most of the pics i took of my snake dont' come out very good. So should i switch it to the flower icon and try that?

yeah just you will need to be close, most point and shoots have a focal range for macro of 2-9 cm from the subject
and you likely have auto focus

I have some macro pics on my page many of which are from an old kodak point and shoot.

Check it out if you want: www.freewebs.com/hackitt/pics.htm

I went ahead and picked out a nice camera, a bit out of my range ($189.99 for camera, 512mb memory, and an 8 pack of AA batteries). It's an Olympus FE-210. It has 7.1 MP, 3X zoom, and most importantly my macro feature I wanted. I'll post a few pictures that I've taken in the photo area.

I just recently got a Canon Rebel XTi...New cameras are so much fun! Hope you enjoy yours, and get some pics up!

I'm soon upgrading big time on my camera as well, from a cheapish £50 affair to a high-end ultrazoom compact. Cameras are so much fun. :)

Most cameras have a macro, and as previously stated it is denoted by a flower symbol. It's basicly, I believe, a system to focus in on close objects to give them plenty of sharpness and definition, that you usually wouldn't get in that kind of shot. Good luck with the new camera, I'll look back for the pics. ;)

memory cards

i don't know what size memory card your new camera uses but if you look on Amazon, they have some really good priced (even w/ shipping) memory cards. I just got a 1GB micro SD w/ SD Adapter ($6), and a 4GB CF ($40) off of amazon. They had an 8GB CF for $80.

Also Costco does too ... i got a 2GB SD for $30, and my bf got a 2GB micro SD w/ Adapter for $36.

I generally i don't think the micro SD's are useable on the digital cameras untless you have an adapter for it.

Hope this is helpful :)

just remember guys, high MP doesn't mean high quality.

I think my next cam is gonna be another canon or a nikon(I really like the REBEL XTi's and the D80's)

Thinking of buying a damage Canon and getting fixed for a better price. we'll see!

Right now i'm still using a high end Kodak and actually find it to be a great camera.

Then why get a XTi? Why not just the XT? High MP does yeild bigger clearer pictures though. So in a sense, quality is better, if you are printing biiig.

in july 2007 consumer reports the highest rated D-SLR is the Canon EOS-30D, whis is just 8 MP although its tied with the Nikon D80, onl difference is MP & Wt

But the lowest rated is the Pentax K100D and it's 6MP ... however it also says that for a person new to D-SLRs the Nikon D40 is the best way to go, which is only 6MP.

I've been looking at the XTi and I'm pretty sure it has some more features than the XT, along with the increased MP.

Indeed, I chose the XTi over the XT as well. I like the added dust cleaning feature. I wonder why the D40 was picked over the XT or XTi. Thinking in terms of pro photography, higher MP is usually better. Which is why I stated big prints. Most consumers only print 5x7 with the occasional 8x10. :santa:

D40 was rated same as XTi, just for people wanting a camera that has features that are easier to use ... less complicated to learn ... i'd pick the XTI over D40, but the new D40x looks interesting ... Costco has a special for $949 can get D40x w/ 2 lenses the standard 20-55mm (or whatever it is) and a 85-200mm

Sounds like a good deal. However, the type of glass you have makes a big difference in color/sharpness of the image. I hate the lens the XTi came with (18-55mm).

what about other EF lenses? since its possible to just buy the XTi body and then purchase a diff lens
