Martial Arts~~anyone ?

Bluebird

lovin my Okeetee boy
Just wondering if there were any others in the forum whom are learning a form of martial arts? I started in January, and aquired my yellow belt in May :D Now that grading is coming up again, sensi's are pushing us REALLY hard...lol...my whole body feels hurting..lol

I have to say though.... I LOVE IT!!! :D My goal is to earn my blackbelt :D I would be so darn proud of myself. If I pass the grading coming up I will earn my orange belt...then its green, blue, brown, and black.

I take karate, our style is Goju Ryu... *means hard/soft*
My 12 year old is also taking it with me :)

man..I'm going to be a hurtin' unti tomorrow:awcrap:...lol

Anyone else into martial arts?

i used to take muay thai, but I punched myself in the face and the master (my boyfriend at the time) kicked me out of class, saying I made him look bad, lol. I bit my tongue and was bleeding all over. I am so uncoordinated it's funny. But it was fun while it lasted.

My six year old was into it for a year or so...he's got his yellow belt as well. It did so much for his confidence level. This year he's so involved in his scouts and that really takes up a lot of our time.

I think it's awesome that you're doing this. My neice won female competitor of the year in 2001 for tai kwon doe (sp??) and is now a teacher. My ex-husband's aunt achieved her 3rd degree black belt at aged 58. My best friend is taking it as well at the age of 45, but I can't remember where she is...purple maybe?

Regardless, I think it's wonderful. Best of luck to you!!

Ouch:awcrap:...that must of hurt!

Wow..that pretty awesome! My uncle is 72 and last year he got his 2nd degree black belt in Samuri Swords :D You'd never know it to look at him:grin01:

I got to purple belt in Tae Kwon Do in college. Really enjoyed it, but cannot afford it here. It's like $125 a month.

I used to practice Kung Fu... like about 18 years ago. I took individual classes... meaning no belt. I really like to do Kata, so that's what I practiced. My sensei thought that I could really go far in that I was able to do the forms really well, but it got expensive and I had to drop out. I love the look of all martial arts, but think (My own opinion) that Kung Fu is simply BEAUTIFUL. So much so that watching Kung Fu Panda brought tears to my eyes... "the bridge fighting scene".

Well.. I USED to be in a "Full Circle" martial arts school. It was a course in my alternative school, we however drifted away from that school for a couple years (meaning we drifted away from the martial arts class aswell) however, in a couple week's when my orientation class end's I'll be going back - when I left I was at my blue belt(this school only had 5 belts, white, yellow, blue, red and black.) I think I was 13 at the time - went to numerous tournaments competeing in kata and sparring.. I always got 1st, but then again, I think there was one tournament where I automatically got first because it was seperated by age and rank - so I was too young to be in the same category as some of the people my rank, making me the only one in my category winning first automatically.

I'm gonna stop my bragging now.:awcrap:

I practise karate, JKA Shotokan. In October it will be 14 years.
2 years ago I earned my black belt (1e Dan) and normally in 2009 I will do my exam for 2e Dan.

I also played around with Kenpo karate (that is what my local studio is, but at this point far too expensive) and in college did a little bit of Kendo which is Japanese swordsmanship. But I never went very far in either of those. I really miss martial arts actually.

(Forgot to mention these in my NFL-stupor last night)

Got a few pics...

Have a green belt in Tae kwon do, My daughter has a
1st degree black belt in Karate, tae kwon do, and tung so do, my son is working on his 2nd degree black belt in Tae kwon do.

If I ever became known as a "martial arts guy" it would be a huge injustice to martial arts guys everywhere lol. But I did take Tae kwon do when I was a kid- reached some random level that I can't remember. I DID have a lot of fun though..
In later years I took some kung fu for a while.. Chuga (chukar, however it's spelled) or southern praying mantis kung fu. That is something I would really love to do more of.. But I do it like I dance, lol. Not very well.
I also had another bit of time with tae kwon do when I was in Korea, the Army does it some days for morning PT (physical training on days that we don't feel like running.)

LOL. Reading this thread makes me want to try Kung Fu again... but it would HILARIOUS to see me try to do what I used to with an extra 40 lbs on my belly... AND being 22 years older...

Actually, it makes me want to cry..... :crying:

I did wrestling and Judo (kind of) for about 2 years... I'm not that into martial arts, and I was always the only girl but it was fun. Hard though, because my weight classes were different for both so I just drank and ate a lot before Judo practice and made sure I exactly weighed 48 kilo.
