Moist Hide Question

Sorry for the probably simple question, but how often do you change out the moss in the damp hide? I have put one in the viv b/c the shed should be happening soon and I want Chara to have the option if he needs it for a nice damp spot, but I don't know how long to leave it or if it should be changed daily, every other day, etc... to prevent any mold problem.
Thanks,

Sphagnum moss of that's what your using actually has any mold growing properties, lol I usually put it in and just let it dry out over time. ill use one clump 3-4 times and then toss it! as it seems too fall apart after a while..

Thank you for the quick response- Good to know it doesn't get moldy- yes I am using the sphagnum moss, I got to thinking about it (at work then got worried as it has been in for 3 days and it is still damp-using a Tupperware type container with the spout cover removed) you can see the dampness, usually where there is water mold will follow and I don't want him to get sick.
Thanks again :)

not a problem! :)

yeah I thought the exact same thing! but I researched it and found that out!
I think that's also why orchid growers use it..

As Justine said, it's hard to mold the sphagnum moss. Most people will moisten it before/during the shed cycle so it can be used to help, then just let it dry out until the next time they need the humidity burst. Then just re-wet it, let it dry, etc.

You will of course want to be careful about how humid the enclosure gets. Just because the sphagnum doesn't like to mold, doesn't mean the aspen isn't a fan of it.

Thank you for the advice, I have the hide set up since the heating season has started here and the air gets pretty dry. Chara has been going in his water bowl or knocking it about since it went from full to half full over night and the hide has been moved a bit, so I hope he is getting the moisture he needs for a good shed. He has had 2 meals and will hopefully be heading into shed soon.
