Morph Statistics

Any of you guys out there know where I can find statistics on the following:

  1. How many corn snakes were sold in the US last year (or any recent year)?
  2. What are the top ten (10) morphs sold?
  3. What are the largest reptile shows in the US (based on number of exhibitors)?

Good luck finding the first one.
#2 is probably the Amel since its "the most popular pet snake in the world" or some such.
I think #3 is Daytona, correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers!

Nobody has any compiled statistics on any of this. You might be able to get a rough idea from talking to the right people, though. Just don't expect any degree of accuracy in the numbers.

You can get an approximation of #2 by looking at which morphs are the most common. My guess is normals, amels, anerys, snows, hypos, ghosts, and motley versions thereof probably fill out most of the top 10.

Why do you need to know??

LOL. Everyone's suspicious.

1. I suspect our's is a "closeted" hobby. I know very few people in my area who keep snakes. The local pet stores don't really provide support to us. I was looking for hides at a local WALMART and the "associate" treated me like I was a child molester. I was looking for a number that tells me I've got more company that WALMART thinks.

2. As I add to my collection,I want to collect representative, i.e., common, morphs. I think the more common morphs are more consistent in appearance than are the rarer morphs. I mean would you want to buy a pure bred dog that looked like your local pound puppy?

3. I Live in Memphis.TN. Before I get in the car and drive eight hours or more to an EXPO, I want to be sure there will be more than six vendors at the show.

Quite the opposite. Unless you pick up a selectively bred cornsnake phase, you're looking at ALOT of variation. Heck, even those will vary considerably from breeder to breeder. If anything, the newest morphs tend to be more consistant because they're generally all from the same lines.

Daytona's a good expo to go to. There's waaaaay more than 6 vendors there.
