mouse barking

I just cleaned the mouse cage and the oldest female is sitting in the corner making noise that kind of sounds like high pitched barking. Is that normal? Is she hurt? I don't see anything wrong with her and she wasn't doing it before I cleaned the cage. This is the same female who likes attacking my small young male for some reason.

It sounds like she wants to mate with you. You might want to turn down the Al Green when you're changing cages--it might be giving her the wrong impression. :laugh01:

How old is this female, she may be too old to breed and that's why she is attacking the young male. She could have a cold if that's the case I would seperate her from the other mice. The dust from the bedding could be making her 'bark'. good luck, suang

yes, you must have this breed of mouse.

I used to have a pet squirrel, Buzz, that would sit on the arm of the couch and 'bark' at one of my friends that he did not like. :p

lol she seems to have it out for Bobo(the male) my other female has taken to mothering him. it's funny to watch her pin him down and groom him.

They do make odd sounds if they have a respiratory infection. If you don't want to feed her off or euthanize, you can try treating her water with Tetracycline @ 30mg/oz of water + a sm. amount of sugar to mask the bitter taste.

This will help if your mouse had zits, as well. :grin01:

(But be forewarned - it can turn your mouse's teeth yellow. :sidestep:

regards,
