Moving to California

Hey there everyone! I am getting ready to move to California and will be taking my corn Apollo and my cat. I remember though that Cali has regulations on all sorts of things crossing the borders (I had my tangerines confiscated once) and I want to make sure Apollo gets across okay. Does anyone know what I have to have for him? My cat has her rabies tag, is there a certificate of health or something that is required?
Thanks for the info!
Jen

I don't think you have to have a health certificate~ but you might want to get one just in case. When we moved from Alaska to California we brought our dog, cat and the boys hamster. We got the hamster a health certificate at the vet just in case (think it cost me $35) at the same time we got the dog and cat a cert. I don't recall them asking for it at the border~ but if they had asked for one~ I had one!!! (Vet almost laughed himself silly while writing out a health cert so I could move a hamster across country~ I guess I'm the only one who asked for one!)

Lol. Yeah I have a feeling I will be the only person in Chicago to ever ask for a health certificate for my snake. But well, I don't want any trouble crossing the border so I guess I will deal with the laughter.
Thanks :)

What are you driving there in? (car, truck, moving van.....) I know when we moved out there we had a BIG moving van with a trailer. We crossed over at about 8 PM and they just opened the back door of the moving van shined the flashlight around and sent us on our way when we said we did not have any produce or plants (thats what they are really looking for). Another hint, as we moved around a lot, don't provide more info than you need to. Wait for them to ask. I am not trying to say sneak things in, as I am sure folks here will read into this, CA already allows corns by law and the last thing you need is some boarder guy that does not know his snakes taking yours because he thinks it is something else.

Also, would it just be easier to ship you snake in and pick it up once your there?

I live close to one of the Agriculture Stations.. It is also known as the Bug Check.. They are looking for citrus fruits, basically for the fruit fly.. No citrus and your fine... I don't remember the last time I have seen them stop a car personally, they just seem to wavbe everyone through unless your a big truck.. No plants, no citrus and they will probably leave you alone...

Regards..

Ditto about the fruits and veggies...sometimes they scan your vehicle for "hitch-hiker" insects. Most of the time they just ask about fruits and veggies.

Whereabouts in CA are you headed? Which route are you coming in by? That makes a lot of difference too....
