Okay this has me totally confused now but it's probably me being dumb! Many of you will have seen one of Rich's most recent posts with the gazillion tubs of snakes and I was really wondering how you heat up so many and still have a gradient my setup would either be shelves or sliding door vivs on top of each other with supports to avoid accidents but I really can't fathom heating do you sitll need the heat mats etc for EVERY viv or is there a way to wire the whole lot up?

Please help me:)

Ps. the multiple vivs won't happen until I knkow exactly how everything will work planning first action second!

oh, there's this stuff called heat tape and what you do is run a length as long as the rack you keep your snakes in and tape it to the wall, and then you clip on some power lines and plug the thing into your electrical socket and BAM, you have a 5inch wide and 5 foot long heat mat heating like 5 tanks. This stuff is sold by the foot in some places.

The stuff you are looking for is called Flexwatt. I know that the Bean Farm carries it, and it is pretty cheap. They also tell you how to wire it. You can look them up through a search on the net.

Regarding the comment on Rich's setup, I'm not exactly sure about his setup, but I know that many big breeders have a snake room that is heated to around 82 degrees. With this room temperature, no extra heating is needed. The snakes do fine without a temperature gradient. So they just have racks to hold the tubs and some type of watering system. If Rich reads this, maybe he will clarify what his setup is. Although, with all the snakes he has hatching and all that work, maybe he isn't reading the forum these days.

im planning on getting a corn and keeping the tank in my bedroom which usually has a room temp in the low to mid 80' s during the summer. So can i keep the snake like this, without heating or a gradient durig the summer? i plan on buying a UTH and creating a gradient during the cooler months, though.
thanks

that's a good summer temp. But I suppose you could brumate all your snakes regardles of age, and not even worry about heating in the cooler months:confused: just a thought but it is natural as long as your house is in the 60 to 70 degree range.
