Allalaskan

The Crazy Alaskan
Well as some of you know I have chickens, and my rooster, well lets just say he has proven to get his groove one haha.

Well one of my hens went broody so I put a set of eggs under her, then my other broody hen was bothered so she quit so I put her eggs under my Rhode Island Red also, so im hoping she hatches all the eggs.

Any way I went out today to check on her and at first I saw 2 eggs starting to pip :D YAY, then I noticed a shell that was all empty, low and behold hiding behind mom was this little one..

The Rooster is an Americauna which means that these are Easter eggers, which is a name for americauna hybrids. They are called this because Pure breed Americauna hens lay mint blue eggs, easter eggers how ever since they are not pure blood they cannot lay blue, but they are known to lay blue/green eggs some times! You never know who is going to do it, they dont always lay a green egg, but im hoping between these ones and my first batch that my moms chicken hatched for me (eggs from my chickens so more EEs ) I will have some lay me some green eggs :D

O here is a pic of Dad...

Kinda hard to tell but he has muffs that stick strait out from around his ears and he has a "beard" too lol, but since he is almost all black hard to tell. I was told he was pure breed Americauna but since I didnt get him from a breeder (craigslist special) I cant say for sure. My mom how ever has a Americauna chick, who if she lays a blue egg we are ganna pair him up to her and see if the chicks lay mint blue eggs, if they do then he is a pure breed :D

O also I thought I would add those eggs came from a batch of 11 different hens so they are not all Rhode Island Red cross with Americauna. The hens are as goes...

-Rhrode Island Reds
-Buff Orpingtons
-Golden Comets
-Barred Rocks

So hard to tell who is exactly the real mom of each chick.

ya the roo is far from a bantam lol, hes pretty big, around 10 lbs.

the first time I posted the pic of the dad it didnt show so I thought it didnt post, thats why there is a second pic lol.

yeah definitly a big size difference. your rooster is an awesome shade of blue/black by the way. looks awesome.

Ya when he is in direct sunlight the blue/green on his feathers shines very nicely! I got him when he was 6 months old, at which point he didnt have his big tail or his come and I actually thought he might have been a hen lol, but they were right he was a Roo, and a very nice roo at that. He is very mellow and is not aggressive like alot of roos I have seen.
