I have this viv its :

40 inch long

16 inch wide

20 inch deep

Is it big enough for my snake to stay in all his life?

I guess it's big enough. Maybe too big for his begin year(s).
I've read something about that a viv of 40 inch x 20 inch x 20 inch is big enough to house 3 corns. But I can be wrong. :)

yes. I have a 30 long by 12 wide and that will hold him his whole life from what I have heard. you should be perfectly fine. Mine is considered a 20 long or (20L)!:fullauto::twoguns: I dont know why these are in here just felt like it haha. its friday :dancer:

that sounds big enough, 40 inches is over three feet isn't it? (its been a long day in work) hehe. I think three feet is usually considered the minimum acceptable size in the UK, it may differ elsewhere.

That size tank should be acceptable all its life, what acceptable is however varies from person to person though.

The rule i've heard before is to try and keep your snake in a vivarium thats at least 2/3's the length of the snake.

That size tank would be too big for a non adult though. Using larger tanks with hatchlings etc. can cause stress and may lead to you not seeing your snake very much.

I put my hatchling in my 20L which is 30 by 12 and he seems to be doing fine. Its about 50 50 with him as far as seeing him. He likes it under the aspen but from time to time hes moving around and being social. Hes about 5 months old so. thats just me i guess.

I mean every snake is individual and varies. Theres probably loads of variables in it, like having quality, tight fitting hides the snake can feel very secure in etc.

All i meant is, its usually recommended to start your corn off in a much smaller viv and increase the vivarium size with the snake, that usually results in your snake being more secure in its environement, giving the confidence to leave the hide, expose itself and explore.

Sounds just about ok. Adults will grow to about five and a half foot. Tank needs to be at least 2/3 of the snakes body so should be ok. However me personaly i will only get tanks that the snake can fully stretch out in. But that is just my personal prefrence.

Ohh and yeah and like TWgarland said.... Do not put a hatchling in a tank that size .. you will probobly kill it with stress.

i thought it was only exeptional specimens that grow to over 5 and a half feet,

i was of the impression that adults usually ended up around the 3 and a half to five foot range?:shrugs:

That sounds fine, I have a 36x12 that is ready for my new hatchling to go in it. Right now I have her in a 5 gal critter keeper that is placed in the tank. She is getting used to the surroundings but has the security of the smaller viv.

My Niblet is in a 56 Tall tank... He loves all the height space! He's a climber though. I would say just add some extra hides, like toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls to give some added security to the small one at least while they are in such a big viv and until the grow bigger.

How is it that having it in a large tank is going to cause it stress??

2/3 there size? if a hatching is only a foot that means its tank should only be 8 inches long????? :shrugs:
