I was taking pictures of some of my snakes today and try to get nice tongue shots if I can. Well, this one really surprised me when I saw it in photoshop. Now, I have seen many different colored tongues, but TRANSLUCENT???? I had to take a double take to be sure I wasn't seeing things, but sure enough, you can see through his tongue. Neat, hey? LOL

And here's a full body shot of him also. He is a nice looking amel stripe.

Does it look translucent in person? I have seen the "flash" of the camera make the tongue appear translucent.

Oh, he is a looker! I love the translucent tongue too - you'll have to see if it's really like that or if it's just the photo! (Good luck with that project! :grin01: )

Now that I've got several different colored corns, ranging from a baby snow to a very dark baby pewter, I'd recently noticed how they have different colored tongues. It's pretty cool!

I have never examined his tongue and don't think he will leave it out long enough for me to take a good visual look at it. LOL.

I can understand things "appearing" a certain way, but it is obvious that this tongue is translucent, the light actually is going through and showing everything behind the tongue. You can see his jaw and even the scale lines under his tongue.

it could b the speed of the tounge...

Actually, when I first looked at the picture that was my first thought, maybe it was the movement of the tongue. But then I realized that there was no blurry motion of the tongue, the whitish tip of the tongue was caught "still" in the picture so it wasn't movement. Just a weird translucent tongue. Too funny. :)

Yep, another one of the many interesting, different things about snakes. They are so totally different from mammals it makes them so interesting and fun to have around! :)

I love those pictures! That tongue is amazing! What's with the tongues on the amel stripes? If you look carefully at this photo of one of my amel stripes, you'll see that her tongue is STRIPED! Any other wierd tongue patterns out there?

I also really like the full body shot, that is a really nice pict there with the log. I'm another big fan of amel stripes, and yours is very pretty.
