I like the carefresh because you can see things a lot easier for cleaning purposes and I feel like the tank will stay cleaner this way.

I use aspen at the moment but as soon as winter comes back around I will be switching to something that holds humidity well. I used Coconut husk last winter and it worked very well, how ever some one mentioned reptibark worked well for humidity so I may try that if all fails back to coconut husk :D I do prefer the light color of aspen though because my snakes stand out on it.

Reptibark boasted humidity about 30% when i used it out of bag trying to dry it,just saying.

I use aspen tho and i love it.

I use aspen for my colubrids and reptibark for my boids. Seems to work great like that but jdog is right the reptibark is very most when you first put it in.

@Allalaskan, I think I mentioned the reptibark when we were talking about boas and carpet pythons. It's working well so far for Niterii and Jade but I don't have as much problem with humidity as you do either. :)

I know that some feel it is not the best for snakes but I use pine. I used to use aspen and prefer it. But it is so expensive when you are dealing with lots of snakes. So I went back to my old trust worthy pine. I have used it for years and never ever had any issues with it.

For my hatchlings I use paper towels. The ones that are like half the sheet of regular paper towels fit perfectly in my baby rack.

I had to stop using pine because it was creating this very fine dust that my snakes were breathing in and it was causing them noticeable breathing problems so I switched to Aspen and newspaper. For a large number of snakes I most definitely understand the need for cost effective and my only opinion to that is as long as it works for you and obviously it does. :)

I use shredded aspen on the older kids, sani chip on the hatchlings after their first shed and a few feedings(news paper before that). I use news paper on my Ball pythons and I haven't had one problem with them shedding.

I do think i'm doing to have to find something else for the Boas when winter comes, probably coconut husk.
